Fabia vrs Fog lights conversion to octavia vrs

Featured Replies

Hi there, was interested to know if anybody has tried to fit the fabia vrs foglights on to the octavia vrs mk1, in the lower vents (the black plastic mesh area). If so could they please post a pic and 'how to details'.

Don't know what others think, but i think it would look cool.

Peoples views appreciated.

Think i might have a light play on photoshop to get an idea of what it would look like.

Thanx:thumbup:

You've already got a pair of effective foglights, haven't you?

It can be done, but I'd advise fitting a pair of projector driving lights, or, if this can be done, projector driving lights in the fog mounts in the headlight cases, and then projector fogs in the lower grilles.

Hope you don't mind Quinten i used one of your pics to make this image in photoshop.

Nothing wrong with the looks. I just think that 2 sets of foglights is utterly pointless, and since driving lights are more effective mounted a decent bit off the ground...

On a legal point, I understand that lights less than 12" above ground level can only legally be used in fog or falling snow when the visibility is under 100m.

milotics not keen on mesh

I don't like the milotec myself, I think they look cheap. I want to do this, not to have a second set of main lights it will be connected to the original fogs. So on the legality side of things it's not a problem. The main reason is that I think it looks good. Think I'll pop round to my local skoda dealer to have a look at the fabia fog unit, coz I can get the fogs and unit holder from a breakers for £60 +VAT, but I want to be 100% that it will fit before splashing out the cash. Thanks people for your advice so far. Keep it coming.

This is NOT my car in the pic (belongs to Quinten and for those that are interested he has it up for sale - check pistonheads) although I do have a silver octavia vrs, just haven't got round to photographing it.

But in answer to your question: ........ Spoilerecken für RS

It's know as a spoiler edge which is a carbon fibre design.

I also will be installing the spoiler edge, just have to wait till later in the month without the wife seeing the money coming out of the bank account.

Wouldn’t having the fogs in the bumper like that effect the intercooler?

Yup, makes a fair difference to the std SMIC as well from what i remember

SMIC?????? What does that stand for.

Side Mounted Inter Cooler

The intercooler is behind the offside vent. Blocking that vent with a foglight is not a good idea as Ross has already indicated. Some 1.8T owners have fitted an additional vent in the front offside wheel arch liner to improve the airflow through the intercooler. This is the Audi TT vent fitted to my car:

Had a look last night, removed the front insert grill. Yep your right plus the towing hitch on the off-side would get in the way. So what about if i was to keep them in that part of the grill but move them to the inner side?? Also might be difficult to find something that i can mount them to.

Same issue I think; the SMIC has more surface area than the grille doesn't it.

Still, this gives you an excuse for doing FMIC conversion first.

Also, approx 10% of the cooling air to the SMIC is lost due to the inadaquate design of the standard SMIC ducting behind the grill on an octy vrs.

I have plated mine with 1/16" gauge alloy plate (painted black), and sealed various other small holes with black silicone sealant.

The above was'nt hard to do and looks very neat (standard), can't understand why Skoda did'nt do the job right in the first place, and while they were at it put the towing eye in the N/S

  • 3 months later...

Is there alot of work involved in moving the intercooler to front? how does it mount infront of the rad? is there a conversion kit needed?

You need a new intercooler. You may need new pipework too, depending on whether you buy a crossflow or sideflow FMIC.
