help with extra security on a mark 4 golf

Featured Replies

right i cant go into details as theres some on going carp to be sorted first BUT can any one think up any ideas about how to secure a mark 4 golf from someone who MAY have a spare key?

basically a friend bought a car privately, and not thinking straight didnt make sure he got the v5. now its doubtful weather the cars finance was settled and we are concerned that they might try and take the car back, maybe by using a spare key (which he also didnt check about)

so we want to secure it to make sure its as hard as possible to take without concent. cant just take the battery off as its parked on road and needs the alarm working to deter the usual to55ers.

any fuses i can pull?

Can you remove the ECU?

Take all the wheels off and leave it on bricks

Not sure what else???

Leads/plugs????

Why would you buy a car without a V5?? Does he have a receipt for the sale? He can he not get the V5?

Easy to immobilize the car, just disconnect the crank sensor (location depends on engine). Recoding the ignition key to the immobilizer will make the second key redundant but you need proof of ownership to get the code from VW.

Steering lock? Or could just wire in a kill switch?

ah mate dont even go there, when i hear i just hung my head in my hands! :( theres been some dodginess, cant say too much as it might go to the police, and they might even be on here!!!

the engine is the good old 1.9tdi any idea over the crank? thats just the sort of idea i was hoping for!!

Ignore me, I'm a nonce :)

Grey plug down the front of the engine by the oil filter.

Also disconnect the cam sensor as it will run on that (just next to it).

But if he doesnt have the V5 its a chance hes bought a stolen vehicle anyhow, best get a check done.

Get a massive Rottwieler to sleep in the car?

remove the wheel?

Replace the 5amp fuse for the dash pod with a blown one ;)

This kills the power to the immobiliser which is located in the dash pod and the car will not start :D

Thanks! thats the kind of idea we were looking for! Now to ask a stupid question... where is that fuse?! lol.

Could even take out the driver's seat - that should slow em down for a bit.

Remove the steering wheel!

If you have the immo SKC, you could program it for just the one key.

couldnt you just go to a vw garage with the key and tell them you have lost the other one???

you could also remove the fuel pump fuse or even have a search around for a fuel switch off valve and fit one ;)

Clamp or bung the fuel hose?

He could, but they would still ask him for the V5 when he wants it re programmed.

ah ok, missed that bit, unless he knows a friendly vw worker ;)

Surely if they want the car they would just do a lift and shift anyway if it is parked on the road?

I'm no sure who you mean by 'they', but if the car's finance hasn't been settled then 'they' could be the finance company. In that case they will just turn up with a trailer and lift it on. You won't be able to prevent them with any form of immobiliser.

what i mean by "they" is the people the car was bought from. as it stands the finance company have no information about where the car is or who now "owns" it. as the people selling it havent given over the v5.

the update is now that the "seller" and his girlfriend are looking at about 7 years in jail. hes given them all the opitunity to sort it out, but they have left him no other option but to go to the police as they have obtained money by deception and commited fraud over the finance letter. luckily he knows someone in fraud investigation so hes are getting all the right information now. there is a process of taking them to court and getting the money back. the court pays him outright and the seller pays the court back in installments.

ive still said lets go up there and inform the families and relatives about whats going on, just to explore that avenue. but it looks like the sellers girlfriend has takne the cash and done a bunk!

See you've had an exciting weekend, Mr Spatulas!

A stick of C4 in the glove box and a kill switch.

The kill switch is wired so it switches between the ignition and the detonator. If they try and take the car with the spare key, they would be making their last ever mistake :)
