Good earth point in boot...

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Would this be an ok earth point?

Also I haven't got the remote cable plugged into the amp yet and I put the fuse into the inline fuse on the power cable and the amp didn't turn on?

Does the remote cable need to be there for it to turn on, or is it maybe the earth is a problem?

for a decent earth use the seat belt buckle bolt and yes the signal wire needs to be there in order for it to work.

Sorry to sound thick here, but where is that?

:o

Take you seat belt stalk and follow it to the end.

I'm guessing it's under the seat somewhere, I'll have a looky tomorrow! :)

Can't WAIT to get the headunit in now!!

Oh and wtf at the power cables connector? Like impossible to crimp. Did it as best I could and then used some insulation tape to secure it!

I connected it to the same terminal as the other wire is on. Hopefully my wiring is good enough and I don't cause a fire :( :P

I find to crimp them use a hefty set of pliers and fold one side in at a time.

What gauge wiring you using?

JUst had a look in the pics, im guessing its not a powerfull amp. If your just running the sub then 8awg should be fine, just make sure you use it on both sides.

Try crimping 0 awg connectors if you think thats tough.

i have zero gauge in my car

big stuff

Normal set of insulatd crimpers should have no problems with that then.

Well i've crimped it as much as I can with pliers and then used some insulation tape to secure it and then put the rubber over the top. Seems to be ok, not great though.

Will have to wait till the system is all in and I do some driving!

I have a crimping tool from Vehicle Wiring Products that has always given good results. Good source for wiring and terminals of different types too.

Does it matter if it's not crimped that well as long as it's (from what I can see) secure? :)

A poor connection can leads to lots of issues including damage to your equipment.

Ace, maybe I should get them done properly then :(

What other problems can it cause?

Well a poor connection will lead it an excessive resistance then to heat and maybe fire.

  • Author

Fire? Yea, so I'm def gonna get them crimped up properly before running the amp!!!!!!!

Thanks for the heads up mate :)

Will see if I can borrow some crimpers from work or something.

I think if I spend anymore on the car this year/month the girlfriend will actually cut my bank cards up :(

Thanks for the link though!!

I'm sure she will be a little more annoyed if the car is burnt out.
