Need new glass for LH door mirror.

Featured Replies

Can you get replacement glass for the door mirrors on a Fabia VRS ?

The plastic housing is fine, so I dont need a complete unit.

Ive seen replacement glass on ebay but none comes with the heating elements and seem all to be stick-on glass that goes over the broken stuff.

Does Skoda do glass only replacement ? Or do you have to buy the whole thing ?

Jules

Yeah you can get a glass only, about £40 iirc.

You can find the glass with the heating element on eBay if you search hard enough. Usually about half the dealer price.

I'm not sure which other VAG models it's common with. The Mk1 Octavia is the same as a Golf IV, for instance. If you can work out which other models yours is compatible with, you can probably pick one up quite cheaply.

Thanks guys - as always.

Halfords may also stock them but no idea on prices....

I paid £22+vat for a replacement glass at the dealers. I was expecting it to more than that.

Personally I wouldn't buy a second hand heated mirror glass, might get damaged in the post, and the heater elements might be worn depending on how old it is.

Maybe I'm a bit naive but I would hope that any mirror glasses being sold on Ebay are "new old stock" ie either in superceded packaging or just tired looking packaging - yes it goes without say never buy a second hand heated mirror glass - if its a heated one you need! Only weakness in hoping to find one on Ebay is that I think that most early Fabias would not have heated mirrors - that leaves the dealer as your best choice I reckon. Once you get the new glass you will see what is involved in removing the old glass and the heater wires.

theres a vrs second hand one on ebay at the moment.

looks ok to me .

cheap enough as well if any one needs one.......

mmm one thing to be careful with is make sure it is the right one

These will be handed for LHD and RHD

So make sure you get the correct one

Just to finish off this thread.

Bought a new one from Prestige Garage - Skoda dealer in Coventry - £25.87 inc

Fitted in minutes.

Happy now.

Most of the replacements on offer on ebay etc are of the "stick on over the broken glass" variety and dont have the heating elements - so not worth it for the money saved in my opinion.
