Tyre wear on octyII vrs est.

Featured Replies

Car was a demo motor only done 1400m when we got it ,its done 15.5k on fronts but only 17k on rears! :thumbdwn:

Is this normal ?

Do you carry a fair amount of weight in the boot?!

There are revised alignment settings for the Octavia II. Try the search or have a look on my Octavia website and you'll find the new settings.

Stu - would factory fresh MY2008's come with these changes already (im presuming yes?)

Lee

I did all 4 Contis in 13k followed by the front Eagle F1's in about 9k.

I would say you are doing remarkably well but must try harder. ;)

I have changed to the revised settings.

It should be 1.25 degrees instead of 1.45 degrees negative at the back.

Should think so Lee but if you are seeing tyre wear then best to have it checked.

If you are unfortunate enough to have Dunlops then I'd not worry about them wearing as you'll be glad to get rid of them!!

I had Michelin Pilot Exaltos but with one thousand miles on them, changed them for Pilot Sport 2 XL's (mainly to try to reduce the understeer in the wet - which worked!) I didnt get the alignment done when I had the change of rubber but I'll get the depth guage out this coming weekend and see how they are wearing. :)

Thanks for the advice,

Lee

I had to have all 4 changed at 16K miles, fronts were on the depth indicator and the rears getting there. I am now on 41K miles, and these tyres are lasting well.

In all seriousness I have grave concerns about the Dunlop SP SportMax that were fitted to some Octavia.

I had two wheel bearings changed due to some very excessive cabin noise (We thought we would be coming back from CZ on a tow truck it was that bad). When I sold the car the dealer's wife was driving it for a while and one day I went in and he showed me the tyres that were taken off. They had what appeared to be delamination on the inner edges which had almost instantly worn very badly and down to the inner construction.

Superted had them on his and has had two replaced so far and his tyre company has referred the tyres back to Dunlop for examination.

I am sure others haere have reported issues with them too.

yup the dunlops are crap. apart from the inner wear on mine, which may have been the suspension, all four cracked along the central lines in the tread of the tyre

Yup, I also binned my Dunlops a 8k. due to cracking. Dealer was not interested in the issue and he was still not interested when I pointed out that it was happening on almost all of his Dunlop shod Demo's and nearly new used stock. (Skoda must have got them for a song!!!)

My original tyres did 30K ! what are you guys doing? I only have the 140bhp version but.............

Wow that sounds bad.

I had Dunlops on mine, I've nearly 18k miles on the car and am very close to needing the fronts changed (they were on the back and swapped @11100 miles). I changed the rears about 1000 miles ago (they were originally on the front). I left it a little too long to swap fronts to back.

The thread depths seemed fairly uniform when I measures them at 11100 miles.

Do you find them noisy?

Mine had 18k, the fronts were getting low but the rears had plenty left.

.

Audi have alot of issues with these too I hear.......And I mean alot of issues.

I also hear on an unrelated matter that 140 PD cyl heads become porous at around 70k, just out of the warranty period. Quite a few have been seen like this it seems.

Wow, was that without swapping them around? You must do a lot of motorway driving. Mine is 90% back roads :D

I don't really know as I've never had anything else on it. I do find it a little loud but thought that was just a characteristic of a wide tyre :)

I'm jealous

I went through the original contis on the front in just under 8k

I have swapped to pilot sport 2's which I like a lot...but after another 6k miles I now still have more tread on my original rear contis than on my new pilots!!

I have not yet got the heart to tell my missus that front tyres may well become an annual event!

I had Michelin Pilot Exalto 2 fitted to my vRS Hatch with dealer fit B14 style 18s from new; if vRS are coming out out of the factory with them now that IMHO is good news.

I have just done 10,000 on mine and, measuring, the tread depth every 2,500 miles, reckon that they will be good for 18-20,000 on the fronts and 30,000 miles on the rears. As for noise, grip etc. etc. I reckon they are pretty good (used them on my Fabia previously).

I would expect much difference in rear wear between a hatch and estate unless the estate frequently carries heavy loads.

My suggestion would be to have the rear geometry checked.

Oh deep joy!

Mine's a company motor, but was thinking of purchasing it at the end of the agreement, as its unlikely I'll get a new set of wheels in 3 years time. Does this occur rapidly at 70k(ish), or does it come on slowly?

Changed to Kumho Ecsta, so far so good, seem pretty quiet and so much better than the Dunlops.

Currently Dunlop are refusing to admit that the tyres i changed are at fault and Skoda are denying that they have ever heard of a rear tyre noise/problem....:finger:.........Mmmmmm

Rears changed on 20K. The inside edges were really badly worn. Maybe an alignment problem???
