Any point using SUL in a standard vRS?

Featured Replies

I always used Tesco's 99 RON in my old Mk1 vRS, and it definitely ran better on it vs the 95 it occasionally got in an emergency! When I got it remapped at Jabba, the standard sort of figures are around the 225bhp. On 99 RON, mine went all the way up to 240bhp!

I use v-power all the time in my vRS.

£35 of it a week :(

That's for about 220 miles though.

Same here but im spending £50 a week.

Im using Tesco SUL, £30 a week and im getting between 120 and 180 miles!! its costing the same as my old 99 BMW 328 to run!!!! strange how a 6 cylinder 2.8 costs the same as a 1.8 Turbo... :)

I sometime use V-Power or Sainsburys, but i dont really notice any difference between them, but i get clubcard points so i tend to stick with Tesco...

Hi ya all, I must say I do notice a slight power gain when I fill up with V-Power but more noticeable is the gain in MPG, a good 5 MPG more over normal unleaded.

I use tesco 99 oct as my car is mapped for 98 oct, but the original sticker on the inside of the fuel filler cap recomended 98 oct anyway and that 95 could be used if 98 was not avail?

What kind of power are you putting out with it mapped for 95 musky?

I don't really know its just a standard Revo - supposed to be about 207 I think. The reason I didn't get it done to 97 etc was due to it not always being available in the wilds of Norfolk, and now with the price hikes I'm glad I didn't.

Ah same neck of the woods as me :D

I spend around £40.00 a week on fuel but doing alot of round town miles i notice about 250 miles for £45.00 which is fairly bad but for alot of stop starting its ok i guess @ 25mpg.

But doing some motorway miles im set to do around 30mpg

Which i think is pretty good considering i have a heavy foot.

My mates have al had 200sx and they are terrible, for a turbo you cant grumble

One question though are you ment to use vpower or high octaine fuel?

What are skodas instructions?

Either really if you look on your filler flap it says 95/98 ron

I was wondering with regards to remaps- is it worth getting it remapped to regular unleaded? I've heard you'll still see 200 BHP easily on regular. Just throwing it out there as if I was bothering to get it remapped I might aswell get it mapped and run it on super.

I had my old vrs mapped to run on 95ron and it made 223bhp on the rollers at Jabba sport. The only difference I found to 97ron or higher they made the throttle responce a little sharper and smothed out the power delivery and also gave me another 2-3mpg.. Personally I would stay on standard 95ron.

Although with your figures it would make more sense to use 97. If you were to get an extra 2mpg that is approx. 5% increase in fuel economy, with regular hitting nigh on £1 a litre if the price difference was 5ppl or less you might as well get super. Currently Sainsbury's for example the difference is 3ppl.

Having said all that my economy doesn't seem to be any better with it :o

I've a 4X4 with an APR remap....

I use Tesco 99RON quite a lot.

When I go back to standard I often wonder if 99 really is worth the difference as the car is great anyway.

Yesterday got to the point where the trip computer said '10 miles' before running out of petrol....Had a Tesco '5p per litre off' voucher....Thought - why not - have a treat - 99RON it is.

As soon as I pulled away I could tell the difference. Responsive and smooth.

Shame its so expensive.

is the price difference between 95 UL and 97 SUL soooo great in different areas?? Around me its a matter of a few pence difference, hardly worth worrying about IMO...

Shell, BP etc. its a fair bit, Sainsbury's where I get mine from is only 3ppl difference. Works out at about £70+ a year for me, not the end of the world but the reason I brought the thread up was that if it makes no difference I might as well waste that £70+ on something else :P

Has anybody tried BP 102? I have looked on their website and the few BP garages that are selling it are all down south which isn't that great when you live up north. Not sure how much is costs per litre but was just wondering really.

Just to add my own experiences, dor the 50000 miles I have had the Octy I have tried Shell 95 and V power, Tesco's 95 and 97 (cant get 99 down here) and Sainsburys 95 and 97.

In all honesty I found that only Sainsbury's 97 produced any differnce and that was just a general feeling of being slighlty more responsive. Given that the difference is only 3p/litre I tend to use it when possible. Average mpg tends to be around 33-34.

My remapped mk1 was run exclusivly on 95ron, the map was done on a tank of sainsburys 95ron by jabbasport.

The sticker on my 4x4 inside the filler cap said 95/91 - does that mean it'll run on Czech vodka?

Oh and after all that Sainsbury's petrol station was absolutely rammed so I did my shopping first came back out and there were only a couple of cars there, excellent. Pull up to the pumps and there are signs saying "no unleaded at any pumps"... oh, so super it is then :P

I did have a sly chuckle at the woman who managed to miss all three so the signs (right in the middle of the lanes to each set of pumps) and drove to every single pump in turn then asked me "is that diesel?" "nope" so she sat behind my car waiting for me to finish  Well, she should have been more specific :mischief:
