My First install of sub woofer

Featured Replies

Well today I done my first ice install on my mates golf, we had done a bit of prep work about 3 weeks ago but me being daft left the earth wire away back at the in laws.

So got round to doing it this morning, first bit was to open the bonnett, and find a suitable hole for the fuse and the postive cable to the battery, could not find a hole so took the scuttle panel off and still no whole so decided to work from te back and connect the earth to the rear of the car which we done.

After some head scatching we decided to take the glove box out of the car and the lower tray on the passenger side and still could not see a hole!! some more head scratching and then bingo we found a rubber grommet and bingo pulled it out right through the bulkhead and under the scuttle panel.

We had now been at the car for a couple of hours and it had taken the time for us to find a blooming hole!.

Connected every thing and went for the test, by which time my mates brother had turned up and he is very good with sound stuff, and turned the ignition on, nothing from the sub or amp.

Puzzled, so took the stereo out and found out the remote had come loose, so my mate tried to fish it out from behind all the wires and snap, the remote snapped!

His brother then came up with a cunning plan to bridge the remote from the amp to to do a simple test to see if the sub worked and it worked a treat sounds fantastic and now I wish I had the sub back in the fabia.

All in a all about four hours work! But having never done this before I surprised myself.

Any tales of your installs.

im waiting to see an install guide for a octy 2 ;)

similar story with mine, very difficult to find the hole and I always hurt my fingers tucking the wire under the plastic skirts inside the car.

In my Baleno it took two attempts. I can't remember why. Cut my hands a lot. In my Lupo I couldn't get the standard HU out for bloody ages. Went to several stores to attempt to buy keys. Before I realised a cut up credit card would do the trick. In my Fabia it took a while to find the grommet, as usual. Whilst installing a CK-7W at the same time I managed to trap a wire in between the stereo and the cage. It took two hours to remove it without damaging the wire. Also took a very long time to run the microphone through the headlining so it came out near the interior light because it was bulky and I didn't want to damage the headlining. In my friend's Golf it was raining. Heavily. In my girlfriend's 206 I went through the whole process only to realise she had bought a HU without a pre-out socket for an amplifier. Doh!

Well my mate last night had a wee sound off with the temp fix we stuck in to impress his flat mate, a bit of laughter but he is loving it, he is away to get it fixed this week.
