Upgraded the camera whilst away on holiday and got one of these..............

It's a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX100.

I had a look at it just before we went away after seeing an add for it on TV. RRP back here is around the £340 mark and managed to pick it up for approx £240 inc. a 4gb SDHC card & reader. I personally preferred the black version but the shop only had the gunmetal grey version which the mrs preferred anyway and at that price i couldn't say no.

Not had much chance to use it as yet as i'm still looking through all the various facilities it has. But when i've had a play i'll post some results.

Cheers

Dave.

Looks like a nice camera. lookiing forward to the pics :)

Well i nipped over to the folks earlier today so took the new camera with me and took some test shots while i was over their neck of the woods.....

I'm happy with the results..... I've resized the images in photoshop as the camera is 12mp so the pics are huge!!!! Just got to get a grip on which of the 21 different modes to use when now. :)

It is pretty simple to use...... To use as a point & click you just select one of the three auto options..... Then if you want to play you can select one of the 21 'scene' modes which cater for anything from landscapes, and portraits through to fireworks, pets & night sky/star mode.

In the pictures i took this afternoon i used the sunset mode as it emphasises the colours of the leaves in the trees.

The screen is very clear too and the movie quality is also very good.... as good as a normal video camera i would say.

I've always been a Canon man myself but i'm settling in nicely with the Lumix.

Some great pics there.......

Didn't get to use mine while on the holiday as we only spotted it the day before we came home. We had spent a couple of days looking in shops for this model but nobody had it, (It's only been out a month or so i think). Then we found it in a shop as we just looked around a small shopping mall.

The mrs is chuffed cos it's small enough for her to use when on nights out etc... and after looking into it's various scene modes i'm happy with it too.

Quick run down on the specs as i realised i'd never actually put them in my original post.....

12.2 mega pixel

Leica DC Vario-Elmarit 28mm wide angle lens

3.6x optical zoom

22.7x digital zoom

OIS image stabilisation (Means you can really make use of the 22.7x digital zoom!!!!)

2.5" LCD screen.

4:3, 3:2 & 16:9 resolution modes.

Cheers

Dave.

Lovely crisp photos them. Nice one!

The Panasonic Lumix range is getting some great reviews.

Were I in the market for a Digital camera now I would have no hesitation in picking one of their range .

Cheers

It's actually not too bad..... If you use the OIS you can still get a clear picture while holding the camera..... The picture quality on full zoom is the equivalent of a 3mp camera picture so is still quite clear etc....

***Edit*** I've just found these two pics we took in the airport on the way home.... Picture 1 is taken with no zoom used and picture 2 is using the full 22x digital zoom...... The camera was hand held both times.

The second picture is of the Upper Crust sign that is lit up in the first picture.

Nice camera Dave, and some lovely pictures.

Particularly like the one of Ange and the cucumber, or did you not mean to show that one?

good camera mate and good bargain

  • 2 weeks later...

I've been using an FZ20 for a while now, not exactly compact but 12x optical zoom and all the features of a prosumer makes it a nice camera. Even at 12x, the image stabiliser does a great job.

Anyway, if you like photography and fancy getting appraised by others then sign up to Panachallenge. Although this is mainly for Panasonic/Lumix owners there is an open category for each challenge.

Regards

Mark

Here's a similar thing using 10x optical zoom and the default OIMS programme on a newish panasonic camera:

Certainly a whole lot better than I am used to.
