Looks like I am going to keep my Getz for a little bit longer than I had hoped:O

In the meantime I was hoping to improve the handling abit because it is one of the little flaws that tarnish an otherwise reliable and reasonable little car,

The official lowered spring kit from Hyundai is £144.50 and is a 30mm drop to the standard ride height, I telephoned my dealer and they confirmed the £144.50 but wanted approx £300 for fitting which in total means it's just not worth it:thumbdwn:

So my question is, how hard are they to fit yourself? In terms of competence I can do basic car maintenance and have dissasembled a few bits in my old Fabia, is it in the reach of someone who is not a full blown mechanic?

Also questionable is how much of a difference they will make, I was hoping to combine the lowered springs with a 15" Alloy upgrade and a rear disc brake upgrade (Which I have full instructions for with piccies)

It's pretty unresponsive and rolls quite alot in general/sensible cornering, So would my plans go some way to make me enjoy the car a bit more?

Im no expert but i woulnt bother with the rear disk upgrade as they dont do much of thework and you would be better off spending that money on something else.

Have you looked into anti role bars? i dont no if they do the for the getz but the Jabba ARB i had fit to my fabia made all the difference!

As for £300, that seems stupidly steep! even if they take an hour a wheel at £50 P/h thats only £200, id take it some place else.

Changing springs should be ok for a reasonably competent mechanic. The Fabia required a hub-opening tool to drop the strut out of the fronts so worth checking up front if you need something like that. You'll also need some spring compressors too and may also want to book it in for an alignment check after it's done.

Alternatively, you could find a local indy who will do it for you for a lot less than 300 quid

Springs make a big difference and will reduce roll as well as pitching and diving so the car will spend a lot more of it's time sitting more level. Whether it makes the car better is a very personal thing. Might be worth just putting the money into the new car fund?

Just had a look on the internet at changing them on a Yaris and it looked really complicated, so I think a independant would be a good idea, Nice to hear they make a bit of a difference too:thumbup:. Don't think I will be able to find any ARB's though, the way It drives I have to wonder whether it has any at all:D

New car fund is on it's way, saving up for a Touran Sport 2.0TDI 170DSG which I have my heart set on but I kind of like the new Fabia too!

I dont mind spending a couple of hundred in making the Getz more bereable in the meantime

I concur - rear ARB (assuming Getz has a front ARB in place) is the way to counteract body roll. There are instructions with pix for a Fabia fitting here and its much cheaper than other alternatives.

Made by a company called whiteline (Any good?), Theres a standard one for £90.98 or £128.05 for an adjustable one

Anyone know if I should go for these or which one?
