creaky steering...?

Featured Replies

new vRS tFSi, 3.5k miles

at very low speeds turning the steering wheel from straight ahead to the left there is a creaking noise like something rubbing. it was far more noticeable today when it was below freezing!

any ideas what might be rubbing, before i take it to the dealer?

//just read back a page or 2 and seen the other thread- i don't think this is the power steering pump as it happens through the range of movement, and not at full lock

I would get the dealers to take a look.

Could be drop links.

There was an issue with steering racks on some earlier cars but yours should be clear of that if it's a newish one.

My 2007 LHD vRS have the same.

I thought it is airbag ring, try to greeze it parts but it is not a solution. If you (or dealer) fix it - let me know what exactly you or they do. Thank you

Is it a piece of plastic trim around the steering column perhaps needs refitting?

I had similar on an old car.

Hi,

Did you get anywhere on this?

I have the same problem, sounds very much like a creaking spring..& only when steering left at low speed, also like yours it seems to be more louder when cold.

Seems like its the same on B6 Passats too:

the vague steering ,continued - VWAUDI Forum

After reading around other sites it seems a common steering rack problem as VRStu mentioned amongst the VAG group even with newer models of Octavia/Leon/Golf ...:-(
