How do I know if I have Xenons?

... and the self-levelling 'dance' when you switch them on.

Do your main beams seem like a couple of candles by comparison?

My main beam is crap, must get some 130's ;)

Mine did 35k with no problems. Now they go wrong regularly :(

Oh well, hopefully it wont be a problem as my Octy is going soon:(

Thanks for all the responses - but I have the leveller switch so I'm non-xenon....just the headlights seem VERY bright compared to my old car....

What goes wrong with them? My car only has about 1200 miles on it so far but this obviously doesn't bode well for the future?!

I had xenons on an Omega a couple of years ago; ran it for over three years and 70,000 miles, mostly with lights on (even daytime) and not a blink.

Any normal halogen bulb I find lasts no more that 18 months to two years for me.

Hi guys i hava fabia vrs with factory fitted xenons, one of my headlights is damaged and needs replacing it is possible that the xenons would fit a normal vrs headlight

No, I would have thought you'd have to have a xenon headlight unit fitted...... Plus it'd look a little odd having one jam jar bottom unit and one reflector unit on the car. ;)

Cheers

Dave.

Yeah one xenon and one halogen would be a tad silly.

I do find people drift towards the centre line as I approach, I suppose an effect of them staring at lights they don't see that often.

Thats it, I've noticed this too - I thought that everyone just wants to take me out!

And now other drivers take to flashing at me because they think I have full beam on - mostly when I'm just coming to the brow of a hill and they are driving up. Well any car lights would look bright due to the different levels in road. Grrrrrr.

Fit some 100watt rally bulbs then show them what a main beam is all about

Having driven cars fitted with factory xenons for the last 5 years i can honestly say the amount i get flashed has got less and less over the years. I do a lot of driving in the dark as i work in a 24/7 office and drive between Sheffield and Doncaster at any time of day & night.

One thing i saw in a magazine somewhere was that as people get used to seeing xenon lights they don't think they dazzle as much. The article noted that people thought similar of halogen lights when they were first used on the roads.

Cheers

Yes, those "new fangled white halogens" got the same treatment when they started appearing.

I've noticed the number of people flashing because of the xenons has been steadily declining. No offense here but it seems to be the older generation of drivers who don't take too kindly to xenons by flashing and even sometimes hooting

And they are the ones with their front fogs on - more and more "oldies" have the front fogs on. I reckon its because they don't know what button/**** does what so they prod and pull until the lights come on and they don't realise the fogs are on too. Or they are doing it deliberately because they think the more light they have the better. Fools.

There are not many xenon fitted cars round my way and you do notice ones coming the other way - yes they are bright but then any car headlight is if you keep staring at it!
