New head Unit not powering up, door unlock on key removal now not working...

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've just installed a Sony Mex-bt2500 bluetooth-ready head unit (HU) into my 2002 MK1 Octavia vRS. As I already had an aftermarket stereo (this is the 2nd aftermarket to go into this car), I already knew to swap the yellow and red wires over. This worked fine. The Radio was not picking up all FM channels, so I attached the blue line from the amplified ariel adaper I already had to an extra bullit connector socket on one of the two lines (can't remember which now, think yellow). That worked fine, picked up extra FM channels. I then proceeded to insert the HU into the dash. At this point, the stereo stopped working (while I was pushing the wires back). To cut a long story short:

1. I DID swap the yellow and red wires to get automatic power (it worked for a short while).

2. The unit went 'dark' while pushing the wires back into the dash (short?). Wires appear to be connected correctly.

3. The unit does NOT respond to ignition key insertion/power on.

4. Locked car doors will now NOT open automatically when I remove the key from the ignition.

5. I checked the HU's 10amp fuse and fuse number #25 in the box, both are OK (intact).

6. I tried my old HU, this now doesn't work, either

7. The new HU appears to be receiving some power, it will accept/eject a CD, bot won't pla

The only other thing I haven't checked yet is the 'extra' blue cable coming directly from the HU's connector (K-line/12v issue?). The amplified ariel adapter ALSO has a blue cable, but that is not directly connect to any harness (as I mentioned, I connected this to one of the swithed power lines).

Please help :o

Thanks

Rich

The radio has 2 fuses in the fusebox IIRC, one for the switched supply and the other for the perm supply. It could be the other one has blown, and as most fuses are shared could also account for the other issue you are having. Hopefully the short didnt damage the convienience ECU.

Local Halfords were very helpful, seems that I'm not getting switched power (yellow loom wire). It's at 0.4v (less than one) instead of 12v with the ignition on. Head unit will/is working on permanent (direct, non-switched) power .

I've checked one radio fuse, #42, described as 'radin' in the manual and being 25 amps, found 15 amps there instead, but OK. Fuse #37 is something called 's-constant' which is described as being for power/supply switched devices, this fuse is OK too.

So, there might be another Radio fuse to find, if not, I've got issues with the switched power/ignition :(

Try everything electrical, including interior lights, ciggy lighter. See if anything else isnt working, that may help identify the fuse.

Fuse number 10# blew ("petrol engine control unit"10 amps). Head unit is OK, now removed 12v blue powered antenna return from head unit's ISO output, spliced this cable directly into the amplified attenna adapter (also blue wire).

All OK now

Cheers
