Computer Fan Speed

Featured Replies

Hi,

Is there any software that I can download to see and change the speed of the fans in my computer?

I only ask as I am running the folding software and it's getting very warm?

I know there is one called speedfan but don't know what I have to do to configure it?

There is a computer downstairs in my ofice that has a BIOSTAR System Control Utility on it but not sure if it's ok to download for my XC Qube?

Can anybody help or I think I'm going to have to remove the folding software!!!

Thanks,

Ben

Have a look in the BIOS, there may be an option in there.

I use a program called Aida System Info. It shows the fan speeds but i don't think it allows you to change them...... But i could be wrong.

It's a good bit of software that tells you just about anything you need to know about your whole system.

Just do a search for Aida32 on the web and you'll find it on numerous sites like download.com etc......

Cheers

Dave.

If the fans are a standard size you can just change them for fans with a higher CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute - Airflow rate)

This doesn't have to be noisier as there are many factors apart from RPM that have an effect on noise levels.

Ben - re speedfan

SpeedFan's supported hardware

may not support your chipset etc - to find out you have to register (free) and then go to this page SpeedFan Configuration Manager

to determine if your chipset etc is supported and then download configurations.

If Speedfan is no use to you - perhaps go Cheezemonkhai's route re the fans, or remove some of the casing to allow better airflow.

If they're running hard all the time then something is hot. Probably not the best idea to slow them down.

As suggested changing the fans for something bigger will shift the same air for less noise (80mm ->120mm).

If you can't increase the fan size (same cases won't fit 120mm fans) you could buy some high quality silent fans from QuietPC.co.uk.

More expensive cooling bits (water cooling , peltiers) are also quiet but possibly ott.

You should be able to get a high CFM 80mm fan.

Quiet PC UK - Ultra-Quiet 80mm Fans

Has a good selection of fans and I would look at the Nocta 80mm fan (Good CFM/Lower Noise) or the two higher CFM models.

At work we can use 40mm fans that shift more air than your average 120mm fan but they scream like a banshee when going flat out.

Best thing to do would be to take the lid off and clean out all the dust as this has a massive effect on cooling.

Take the details off your fans while you are in there so you can source new fans for a change over.

I certainly wouldn't be turning the things down as the system will be running them fast because it is hot, as has already been said.

Thanks everbody for your comments, much appreciated. :)

I remember dismantling an old works PC for destruction, and finding it had a fan in on of the PCI slots - don't know if that'll help?
