Dropped into Freeborn Skoda Southampton this morning, to look at a 6 month old Roomster 2 listed on Autotrader. Turned out it had been sold. Offered a 57 Roomster 2 1.9TDI first registered on September 30th, with 6 miles on the clock, climate control and roof rails fitted for the same price. Take list OTR price, knock off £90 because it only has 3 months' VED, add on £350 for metallic, £250 for climate control, £180 for roof rails, then knock off £2765, which is a pretty good saving for 6 weeks and 6 miles.

If anyone else is interested, they seemed to have quite a few pre-reg vehicles, and keen to shift them before the end of the month.

Salesman Joe Hosegood was impressively professional, and keen to deal, especially when I suggested that my next stop would be another Skoda dealer to compare 'costs to change'. An email exchange with that company confirmed my perception that dealers are not very bullish about sales at the moment, given Christmas approaching and concerns over the economy.

Look out for a 'first few hundred miles' report in the next few weeks. I've moved from a Fiat Multipla, of which I've had two, and been very pleased with them, but Fiat have failed to invest in them significantly in the last 7 years. As we no longer needed 6 seats, the Roomster was the obvious choice to performs a similar role in our family's life.
