Can the diverter valve be removed?

Featured Replies

Can the valve be removed and offending pipe work blanked off?

Do you mean the valve in the boost pipework?

I don't think so no as the pressure has to have somewhere to go when the throttle is closed.

but why would you want it removed?

Im an ex cosworth owner.

I prefer compressor stall to the ptssh of a dump valve.

I've always preferred the way the car drove with compressor stall rather than the air being dumped too.

compressor stall? as far as i was aware the octys MAF sensor uses the recirc'd air fromt he diverter valve in its fuleing, and doesnt like the lack of air--hence why atmospheric DVs cant be used

The MAF sensor is before the pressure side of the intake. There is the MAP sensor which measures the pressure in the induction side.

The OEM DV isn't VTA so you won't get the loud scooby esq Psssht when it operates.

so was i slightly right?

cosworths have MAP sensors, but are able to be run without a dv.

i tried to run a standard dv and blanked the intake hole off and it brought the management light on and didnt boost properly so i wud say no dont do it :thumbdwn:

I never ran a DV on my cossie or my scoob either, nad have to admit, i preferred the way it drove. (and sounded)

Would be interesting to hear if it's possible without lighting the dash up like an xmas tree.

ahhh... more fellow ex-cossie owners :D

I haven't tried personally, but I'd guess that you'll end up with the Engine light on and fault codes set, as this system monitors boost pressure BEFORE the throttle body (in the top of the intercooler) and will probably have a benny when it sees the boost spike when you lift off.

Also, especially if the car's been remapped with higher than standard boost, I'd be wary of damage to the turbo shaft due to the shock of the compressor stalling. The shaft on the K03 is very small diameter compared to the cossie T3/T34/T4 series, and may not take kindly to the compressor being stalled at 1.5bar.

It's not unusual to see a cossie T4 shaft snap due to this at high boost levels, hence why it's reccomended to run a dump valve with T4 applications, whereas with a T3 you'll happily get away without it.

I ran a 34 and a T35 on mine without a DV. Was awesome. ! (obviously not at the same time..) :D

I ran a T3 and a T34 with no dv - much fun :)

rich - i'm sapphymike from pf ;)

Hi Rich......all us ex- Cossie owners are here now,lol

Well fancy that....

Only today i have found that my recirculating valve on my vRS was blanked off causing alot of chatter........

But no warning lights were on and it has been like that for a while..

But i have now fitted a proper re-circ valve from THS Performance

we've moved on Tiff LOL

How are you finding your vRS?

One i looked at today was a pup :(

Mike

Loving it mate....honestly i rate it up with the Mondeo and BMW i had tbh.....

Why the move from the Cossies, reliability? Cost of running?

I only moved as i fancied a change at the time.

Loved my Saff to be honest, one of the best cars i've had so far.

Although when giving it some..i was averaging around 110 miles to a tank ! :D

I moved on from Cosworths at the moment but i will have another soon in the garage to push out, clean and put away again

I need a car I can use every day.

I do alot of miles a year, and a Cossie just doesnt have what I need - a/c etc.

I have use of a quick cossie, plus like Tiff, I'll have another at some point.

Glad you're enjoying it Tiff :) They're very good cars and I'm looking forward to getting one!

Shouldnt you be after a diesel then with a lot of miles to do?

I've had several diesels and im utterly board of them.

besides, the Octy gives good mpg on a run

I still cant beleive how good the Octy is on fuel.

On a long run in my mapped vRS i average 40-41mpg.

And lastnight i went from Edinburgh to South Sheilds and back in the Saab (9-5 diesel) and that only averaged 43mpg !

Hardly worth buying a diesel ! :D

exactly :D And with a good turn of speed when required!

I dont drive everywhere at silly mph, but I do like to know I have power under my right foot!
