The E-Mail reads

For technical reasons with immediate effect no registration plates must be failed for wrong colour-missing supplier details-postecode-bsau non reflective back grounds-non reflective back grounds- unnacceptable symbols or flags until further notice.

damm, i was hoping this would work in removing ch-vs from the queens highway :(

Does this mean that they've suddenly realised that those rules (well other than font and some mis-spacings) actually only apply to plates made in the last 2 years or so?

They've not giving a reason but i think its because us above the border are governed with diff rules and i think it causing them a big Headache.

But beware i think next year they along with the goverment will inforce an even tighter law on plates than what presently inplace and really stuff us all.

Yes, but you can still fail for incorrect spacing, digits distorted to look like another, screw caps placed to make it look different and of course, all digits must be of uniform thickness, eg, no script or comic sans MS. Failed one with a 7 bent to look like a Y! Most indignant, said he was going to appeal! Didn't though :-)
