Has anyone heard lately what's going on with Awesome's and/or Forge's versions of this? I've looked on their webpages but there's nothing there.

I'm seriously considering getting this and a cotton filter soon but don't want to give Seat £75 of my hard earned money if Awesome's or Forge's part is coming out.

I read that Awesome's intake was going to be possibly 20mm wider than the Seat part giving a greater amount of air for the combustion cycle.

Any news would be greatly appreciated!

£75?! PD160 air intake pipe and trumpets are about £20, thats what i paid for mine. Id just buy one mate, its not gunna make a load of differernce what ever forge or awesome bring out IMHO

No, they're £75 now 'cos SEAT have cottoned-on to the demand and inflated prices accordingly! Could be wrong here, but I think the Forge offering will be about the same price, although as mattandy's said, it's supposed to be bigger and better!

That's it. I'd rather give my £75 to Awesome / Forge for a better product than Seat for a bit of plastic they've bumped the price up on to take advantage of us lot.

/\ Which is all why I get the impression that people are starting to be of the opinion that they're not worth it unless you've already got a tuning box or a remap - £75 (+£40 for the cotton filter) for something that's not necessarily got any performance benefits is a pretty high price for the erstwhile 'pikey mod no. 1'

Put another way, the pipe + filter may or may not have any actual discernible benefits for performance for your £115, but then you can get a second-hand digital tuning box for about £150, which WILL make your car go faster. There are oodles of posts on the topic, so if you want more info before making a purchase, have a good search!

He he, im staying out of this, i cant go through the benifits of air flow again!

One of the little issues anyone replacing the intake or building a better PD160 will have to address is it's actually quite bulky and sort of square profile and it still rubs against things... Such as the battery box and the small coolant pipe of the front, RHS of the block (looking from the front). In addition, the entry to the airbox x-section is substantially smaller than that at the front, rectangular trumpet intake.

Despite its little foibles (scuffing things, trapping battery box clips), the original is a pretty cool bit of design and fits neatly, albeit tightly into a restricted space.

Replacing it with something new that works and that people want to fit to their car and doesn't involve co-lateral surgery, is going to be a challenge.

Really, Whats the Re Number? , i would guess that the makeup of the pipe would make it pretty turbulant flow, and the awesome version I seen on here wont be much better if they leave it with the tumble dryer hose on it.

Im writing to express my concern, and quite frankly, disgust, as to the fairly recent price increase on the PD160 air intake part..

Part number - 6LL 129 618

This used to be priced at around £25, which is about acceptable for what is essentially a piece of plastic.

However a lot of people have been replacing there existing PD130 air intakes with this part for better airflow.

Instead of the usual, lowering of price to increased demand, it seems SEAT thinks its acceptable to increase the price by about £50, yes £50!!!!

The price now stands around £75, for a piece of moulded plastic, the increase does not even come close to matching inflation rates, nor is the price acceptable for what your actually getting.

The point of this message, isn't to just have a moan, its to ask for justification of how you came about increasing the price of this part so much? I'm happy to listen to reasonable reasons, and accept them if there is a genuine reason?

This is not what i'v come to expect from SEAT.

I know we all moan about the cost of the intake, but we don't need it - think of those with a Cupra PD160 and need to genuinely replace it. £75 is a joke!

Yes you're right, it's going to be turbulant flow. What I really meant to say is that it won't be as restricted going into the box.

Must admit, that's why I got mine. That, a dose of injector cleaner and a new OEM filter has reduced the tail smoke to a small puff when pulling away from standstill...

I was just starting to think about adding this to the car, but that kind of price increase is rediculous. I thought there was two parts, the flexible tube AND the front intake?

Your probably better off modifying the pd130 intake, as on both there is a vertical part blocking the direct flow of air into the airbox. Therefore the air seems to be drawn more from the engine bay than from any forward air.

Yeah, i agree with what people have said about the price of the air intake. i nearly passed out when the bloke at the garage asked for £75 :(

For the price people are paying you aren't really getting that much of a performance gain, i wouldn't of even bothered if people had'nt recommended it to help with the remap i'm planning on getting

One week since fitting the PD160 kit I'm absolutely certain the low end performance is marginally reduced. Anyone else had this experience?

If today's experience is repeated, what has improved though is the mpg. A seventy miles motorway journey I make quite often yielded a computer read out of 54.8 mpg whereas, the best I can recall is 49/50.

Please could you point me in the direction of who does have influence of pricing for parts? I find it hard to understand how all independant dealers randomly decide to put prices up at the same time, besides your electronic part system is universal across all dealers, so someone must be updating this?

Strange, because when I got mine, the parts dept. manager was shocked by the price his 'system' was saying to charge for the intake. That suggests that Seat provide an MSRP at the very least...

I got the same response from the parts guy when i went to get our second one....... He even said that SEAT had up'd the price and assumed i wouldn't be wanting it anymore..... He assumed right and i got one from a Brisky member for £30.
