Online quotes with modifications

Featured Replies

To save myself a 'few' minutes, can anybody tell me any insurance companies who allow you to specify modifications when doing an online quote?

I've done one with Elephant and I'm quite happy with the price, don't want to go through the 20 minutes process only to find at the end they say I need to ring them because I've ticked the box to say the car is modified.

Admiral allow you to add modified parts during the quote process, including remaps, suspension, wheels etc.

I believe confused.com allow you to add modifications and then they go and fire it at all the insurers.

I'VE BEEN THRO' ALL THIS OVER THE LAST FEW WEEKS & IT IS PAINFUL !

BASICALLY I BOUGHT A NEARLY NEW OCTAVIA VRS WITH ABOUT £2K OF EXTRA'S ON IT (NOTHING FANCY & NONE OF IT PERFORMANCE ENHANCING !) BUT AS SOON AS MY EXISTING COMPANY (ADMIRAL) FOUND OUT...THEY WANTED ANOTHER £150 A YEAR BUT STILL WOULDN'T PAY OUT ON THE EXTRA'S IF THERE WAS A CLAIM (WHAT !?) SO BE WARNED !

ALL THE OTHERS ONLINE ARE THE SAME...SOME WILL TELL YOU THAT YOU ARE COVERED BUT THEN WHEN YOU SEE THE T&C'S YOU ARE NOT...BUT THEY'LL STILL CHARGE YOU MORE BECAUSE IT'S 'MODIFIED'....NO IT'S NOT, IT'S JUST A FEW OPTIONAL EXTRA'S !!!!

ANYWAY, SAVE YOURSELF A STACK OF TIME, GRIEF & FRUSTRATION...GO TO BRENTACRE (JOHN OR FREDA), SKY OR CHRIS KNOTT....THEY WERE ALL WITHIN ABOUT £20 OF EACH OTHER AT THE END OF THE DAY...& YOU'LL BE FULLY COVERED. IT'S COST ME ABOUT £60 TO COVER THE 'MODIFIED' CAR OVER THE STANDARD SPEC VRS

AS FOR ELEPHANT...I HOPE THEY DIDN'T PUT YOU THRO' TO CALL CONNECTIONS...AS YOU'LL NEVER GET RID OF THEM !!! GOOD LUCK.

P.S DOES THAT MEAN THAT ALL THOSE MODIFIED CARS OUT THERE WITH METALLIC PAINT ARE NOT FULLY INSURED...OR FOR EXAMPLE A CAR WITH A SUNROOF OR THE LIKE !

Some insurers will replace like-for-like modifications so long as they are declared on the policy. Admiral is not one of these as I discovered in the small print
