Wheel bearing replaced under warranty. By a chimp.

Featured Replies

Then the ABS failed.

I VAG - COM -med it and it said 'implausible front left wheel speed.

I removed the front brakes to have a look - see and this is what I found

:eek::mad:

I know the wheel wouldn't have come off, but I'm still going to ring up with my best *******ing voice tomorrow.:thumbdwn:

I had a main dealer change a noisy front wheel brng on mine. Their first attempt left the car with almost as much brng drone and a vibration through the steering:eek:. When I complained they told me the alloy wheel must be buckled! I took the wheel to a tyre fitter who ran it up on his balancer confirming the wheel and tyre were perfect. The dealer had the car back for there head tech to look at. He managed to drop a brake pad - smashing it and finally decided the hub was distorted:mad:. They proceeded to put this right at there expense taking a total of 9 days before the car was back on the road.

About a year later the same bearing started to become noisy again! Unsuprisingly the dealership I had been using had since gone bust and the car was finally put right by another local VAG dealer - Skoda UK reluctantly paid the bill.

Good luck with yours!

All the best, you must be feeling rather p!$$ed off at the mo :(

Doesn't look good but I can't work out what the pictures show. Would someone post an explanation to asage my interest please...

If I remember correctly, the top picture shows "a good one", the lower picture shows a bearing not quite fitted fully in to the hub - oh and what looks a bit like the cage thing that the balls normally live in - that bit is meant to be "part and parcel" of the bearing assembly.

I thought that Fabia/Polo/Ibiza normally needed a new hub when the bearing "went" - I assumed that VAG had worked out that replacing the bearing was a bit difficult due to presumably VAG using a sub standard hub design.

If the the bearing left the garage in that state it's a disgrace.

J.

OMG - hopefully no damage done - but that is really sad - it's a responsibility to make sure the car is safe - if summat goes wrong, especially with critical systems it could cause a lotta harm to life and limb....

Good you spotted it mate...

I think it was OK when it left the dealers a month ago, but has 'come undone' over time. Wheel held on by brake disc rubbing on caliper carrier.

312's fitted, and the std brakes won't go back on unless the hub's on properly.

Am proper cross.

unfortunately we seem to be hearing more and more stories of this fashion....

I left skoda, due to v.poor dealers, and poor head office customer service due to warrenty issues....

It's with them as we speak. If they kick up a fuss because of the 312's, then I'll bring it to their attention that the hubs are commonly fitted with those brakes in other models in the VAG range, and that the extra turning force exerted by the brakes is ALONG the front - rear axis of the car, which wouldn't cause the bearing to move sideways, and anyway, the force exerted by the brakes is limited by the tyres anyway.

If I don't get anywhere with that, I'll suggest that trading standards might be interested, and also mention the local paper.

I'll let you know, but the RAC man sent by Skoda assist recommended that the car not be driven.

My wifes seat leon went back to the dealer one week after we bought it because the front wiper motor was faulty. When we got the car back the trim on the inside of the boot lid was hanging off!!! Must have been the same monkey.

Mended.

The bearing retaining clip had broken, both bearings replaced now.

Am happy, as long as the bloody clips stay in one place this time.
