New cambelt problems

Featured Replies

Hi,

Ive recently had fitted a new waterpump and cambelt to my 2001 110 tdi. It very soon became apparent to me that all was not well under the bonnet . The car is now sluggish at low revs. It seems to sometimes take a couple of seconds for the turbo kick in, when it does some power is available upto around 2800-3000rpm where there is a noticable drop. the above is coupled with increased engine noise at any speed above idle, its definatly more thrummy. Any ideas? The car doesn't smoke and engine lamp is off.

if it was ok before the belt was fitted i would say the timing was out now , get the belt timing re-checked

Thanks going to take it back (again)tomorrow. I have had injection timing out sugested by a work mate. Was hoping to determine whether it was the belt or something they disturbed when they fitted it.

If they didn't re-time the pump properly, that would be the prime suspect.

Thanks, will get them to check injection pump timing out when i get it to them. It was going to be today but forgot prior engagement. Just noticed tonight that engine management light doesnt work on start up should i be worried?

That's not right. My normal starting procedure is to switch on, and wait until the last of the bulb/circuit test (or timed) telltales goes out, so I know it should illuminate on first switch-on.

I didnt think that was right. All the others light up ok just never noticed that the little engine was missing. I dont think its related to my present problems i dont remember it ever working. Car went to garage late today hopfully sorted tomorrow. Thanks for your help

Diesels don't have an engine light, the glow light usually flashes if there is an engine management problem. You can check the pump timing on VAG Com, if it isn't smoking the valve timing could be out a little.

Well ive got car back and it seems to be back to normal. Id almost forgotten how well she used to run, bought a smile back to my face i can tell you. The mechanic said he adjusted the timing back to some existing marks made on a previous belt change (now on 125000mls). That doesnt sound right i know but im just glad to have it back to 100% after almost a week of trouble. Will pay a bit more to get someone who knows what there doing next time. You live and learn.

My PD 130 (2003) TDi Elegance (2003) has one fitted, so I would question this.

As does my 2002 110.
