Featured Replies

Hey folks am thinking of replacing the turbo on my 1.9TDI Octavia prior to re-map how much will a Turbo be and are there any non standard turbos that would boost performance and be easily fitted?

thanks

Olly

Do you need to replace the turbo?

well the car has done 110000 already and has never had a new turbo have had a wee problem with the car going into limp mode on the moterway and im not sure the turbo is performing properly i will get it tested b4 i go ahead and buy a new one but could do with some prices and ideas just in case

if the car is going into limp mode, could just be the MAF meter, they stop the turbo working properly when in limp mode, and worth checking as there a tad cheaper than a turbo unit lol.

New ones seem to be around £585 + VAT & upwards. Mine's being taken off & going for assessment, hopefully could be cured with a clean and new bearings & seals, if so about £200 for that plus the labour to remove & refit. If it's shot it's about £450 for a recon unit. Dealer has assured me it wasn't the MAF so I shall be less than happy if it turns out to be the MAF rather than turbo!

Had mine replaced on my 2.0 litre TDi under warranty and the dealer said the cost would have been "well in excess of £1000". There are lots of other things to try before replacing the the turbo on spec.

****ola! thats a fair whack will go get the MAF meter checked out ,my turbo performs fine unless i am doing about 70 - 80 (i have my own private air strip!!) could this indicate that the turbos fine but the MAF meter is buggered? and how mutch is it to get the MAF meter sorted

Thanks Folks ..........Olly

I'd go with the VNT vanes sticking myself.

It can be cleaned and there have been several threads/guides recently.
