What would Skoda do...

Featured Replies

What would Skoda do if I asked them to drop an different clutch and flywheel in for me while they're fixing my gearbox. I'm droppping my car off tomorrow night so that they can strip my gearbox out to fix a suspected knackered synchro on 1st gear, as long as it is the gearbox that screwed and not my clutch, it should be fixed F.O.C. under warranty. I was just thinkng that while the gearbox was out it might be worth putting a fresh clutch in, my car's done almost 60k.

Thing is, I'd want to put a decent clutch with a single mass flywheel in, not another standard one. At the same time, if it isn't the gearbox and it turns out to be the clutch, it won't be under warrnaty and I'll have to foot the bill, in which case I certainly wouldn't want to pay out for a standard one to go back in!

What do you think they would say to being supplied with non-standard parts to fit?

Would have thought if you where paying the labour rate the garage would do any work you asked in addition to the warranty portion. Of course you would immediatly invalidate said warrenty when the new parts went in ...............

I'd say they probably won't fit parts you supply them with, full stop. :(

i supplied my local skoda garage with non-standard parts for them to fit. no problem.

just ask them. if they say no, take your business elsewhere. they are your monkeys to do with whatever you decide. crack the whip!

My local Skoda dealer will only fit parts which are supplied by them.

you be better off going to a small local garage who will do the extras for you for a far better rate and probably better service too.

Well, as said, the car is under warranty. If they strip it down and it's definately the gearbox then I don't have to pay, it would just be a case of 'while your down there'.

BUT, if they strip it down and it's not the gearbox, it's the clutch, that wouldn't be under warranty and I have to pay for them having just stripped my gearbox out. I'd then be in the tricky situation of saying 'thanks, now put it back together again because I don't want an OEM clutch' and then have to pay the labour charges for taking it apart and putting it back together, only to go to another garage and pay out all over again!

And with reagrads to it invalidating the warranty, the sales manager, Paul, said that the warranty would only be invalidated on a certain part of the car the if the modifiaction was the cause of the fault.

i suppose the thing to do is to ask them say that you want to change it to be on the safe side while it is out.

they can only say no!

Just for info I got my clutch and flywheel changed under warranty at 54000 ish....:):):)

If it is the clutch it maybe worth a fight.

My clutch was was slipping badly, but dealer went to Skoda UK and said the flywheel was broken and that caused the clutch to wear prematurely:rofl: and they dutifully coughed up for it all to be done.

Yeah, I've just replied in the other thread, thye've replaced the clutch under warranty for me. I guess it was because it was broken rather than worn out?

Cool missed that thread.

Nice one mate.....:)
