Should I be really be doing this?? ECU writing...

I certainly don't think you should be telling us that you have and intend to use a cracked copy of VAG-COM. The VAG-COM team help us a lot on this forum and all free of charge, in return I think it's only fair that you support their development if you intend to use their product.

Or use a shareware version rather than a cracked version :)

Now we got onto the topic of eeprom's they get yourself a eeprom writer and some chips (cant be that expensive these days), unsolder the chip and away you go. :)

not overly recommended without the proper equipment though :)

That's a lot more risky than just using a byte blaster etc.

As said you would need the static safe mat on a desk and a suitable TC soldering iron with anti static grounding and the correct solder..

Then you would still need to get the values right and not toast the engine when you turn it over.

I mean setting the boost to 1000% is perfectly valid in terms of the values in the EEPROM, but the turbo most likely won't be happy about it.

You need a proper eeprom desoldering station to perform the taks properly.

Na you can do it fine without assuming the EEPROM isn't a BGA, done it plenty of times myself.

That's why you need a good TC iron and some very fine soldering iron bits.

I guess it helps having a very steady hand eh? lol

Na, I'm not a patch on the woman who does it daily, and you should see the shakes she has.

She is amazing at doing these things, to the point that she managed to move a 400MHz bus 6" to a different connector using just strips of wire from a ribbon cable and still have it work at full speed.
