whats the helix rated at?

Derv doctor quotes 440 f-lb.??

That might be right - but it will be at the flywheel, not at the wheels. I guess converting ATW to fly with mine, it makes it around 630/640 lb/ft at the flywheel?

Anyway, my old clutch was rated to 400, and I made that slip without surpassing 400 lb/ft.

/\hmmm

ive only got 180bhp and around 300lb/ft so im pretty sure the Helix will more than suffice for my needs, i could of went with the sachs clutch using the OEM dual mass flywheel but didnt really see the point as i wouldn't feel safe with that

Just think, all you need now is a car to go with it. :P

:D OK, that's a bit sad, but so have I now (assume you used the flywheel shot)

Had the clutch apart at my mate's garage earlier. The clutch plate looks awesome. The kevlar clutch had a kind of "puck" shape with 4 or 5 "pucks" with gaps inbetween - Unsure why. This one is a solid all the way around plate. And it looks nice - the plate is good and heavy but the rest is not.

Mate reckons it will idle badly now, but I don't really care if it does. I'm going to love this car even more now.

Nice one Jason, now get it fitted and feed back the results :)

Wouldnt say a Helix cluth was a toy by comparison i would leave that for the sachs clutch.

 not true....... sach rule ;)

It doesn't idle badly, but it does clatter when at standstill. I can send you a clip if you like. Pedel feel is much better than the old JBS excuse.

I've heard the clatter in the flesh on another TDI with SMF - so can live with that. Looking forward to the good pedal feel.

Thats a paddle clutch :D

The new clutch looks awesome mate, I shouldnt have been so much of a pussy now and gone for the SMF + spec jobbie instead of the sach one :(

Whens it going in ?

Whens it going in ?

Saturday. ;) The idea being to have Monday & Tuesday off work, so in 3 days I aim to have done. Might get done in 2 days all being well.

6 speed gearbox swap, doing clutch at same time

Cupra rear bushes in consoles

Fiddle around with NOS/LPG arrangement

Install BMC CDA box in ram-air position

New ds2500 brake pads for the brembos

fit the Jabbasport dogbone mount

Whilst this is going on, I shall be armed with a power tool or two, looking for metal work to remove off the back end of my car. ;) The aim is to try and lose about 20kg from behind trim, etc - rear doors, bootlid, etc - Might tweak the bumper bar too. :D

surely you want to remove wieght from the front?

Trouble is, much of what is up front is not removeable. :P (beyond front door bits) I have the propane tank in the boot to keep extra weight over the back, so me removing 20kg merely offsets the effect of carrying the LPG setup in the spare wheel well.

I've just had a Spec Stage 2+ Clutch Kit fitted inot my Golf PD150 and it again is a kevlar solid disc on one side and a 4 puck arrangement on the other side. This is so that it still allows driveability around town. Clutch bites very low to the carpet but copes very well with the power and torque being put through it. Excellent products.

ahhh i see:D

 You've stolen my clutch! ba5tard!

I had it first, copy cat. :P

You seem to copy all my clutch ideas.

When you do get round to fitting the Spec kit, be prepared for some clutch judder. Drive it gently for a bit and it does disapear. It's not a faulty clutch, it just needs running in. It concerned me so much I took it back out again to check it, found nothing wrong. :(

Have been warned already that is "feels broke" when you first fit it and use it. I'll be easing her in for 500 miles first anyway - going to be hard that given the gearbox going on at the same time has the peloquin in it.... I'm going to be really up for some corner trials....
