Damaged wheel and pot hole

Featured Replies

Hi just after some advice please,

I hit a very large pot hole the other day and has knocked my wheel out of shape. Awesome GTI have had a look at is and said there are places that can fix this sort of thing. Would you recon I could claim these costs off the council?

I am not a happy bunny at all, but would like to try and get something done.

Thanks for all your help in advance

Shaun

Yes you can, go back and get some photos of the pothole and measurements, and of the damage caused, report this to the council and make the claim.

Get some photos of the pothole Shaun, quickly! Preferably include some with a measuring tape in the hole, indicating depth. Where was it?

You should be able to claim, yes - and supplementary photo evidence will be a great help.

Best of luck mate

Aye going to get some pictures sorted tomora when I have my car back. Anything else you think I should get while there?

Seriously if a motorcyclist would have hit it I dont think they would have stayed on.

Steve it was North Warrington just off J8 M62.

Thanks for the help so far

Shaun

That sounds bad :thumbdwn:

Just some general location photos, then some closeups of the hole, inc one with a tape measure stuck in it :)

Get them ASAP though, seriously. If it's as bad as it sounds, it's likely it's been noted or already reported. So if you return to find the council/HA team have filled it, you'll find it mighty hard to claim anything! Out of interest, what class of road was it? Dual carriageway, trunk A road etc?

This happened to me years ago (Council had filled it in - wanted witnesses, occurred at midnight :thumbdwn: ) - so, as Steve says, soonest.

It was an A road heading towards Burtonwood. Will go tomora and get some real good pics with a friends DSLR, I would go now if I could.

Just hoping I dont get fobbed off.

Just that if it's trunk A-road it's likely to get picked up and sorted sooner, that's all. They're obliged to take more care of these routes...

If it was a bit earlier I would have given you a lift out there :o

Aye going to get out there later on.

Cheers Steve but I couldn't have, got no money for your feul and time :)

Shaun

If it's a reasonable claim (ie you're not claiming for 4 new wheels and tyres and suspension) it'll be signed off pretty quickly and easily (one of my ex's used to work in the traffic planning dept and processed the claims). Best to take photos as others have said, as councils do have a habit of sending out their rapid response unit to fill in potholes which have had 1 or 2 claims against them already!

If you can find 4 separate pot holes, you might be able to get a new set of tyres and wheels out of them ;)

Chris

From what I can remember ... The pot hole needs to have been reported previously :( But I may have outdated data...

There wouldn't have been a charge mate :)

Any news?

Steve

i wihs i had known this a while back. i was driving my brand new fabia demo down a steeply sloped lane and i hit a massive pothole. it destroyed the tyre AND the alloy (only 500 miles in) and later i found the rear tyre was shot also.

luckily i didnt have to pay it out, but if i had thought about it i would have got pictures etc at least the company could have filed for costs.

also it was dangerous. i had to use the handbrake to slow us as the front brakes werent working fully due to the tyre slipping. at the bottom of the hill was a 90 degree bend which i only just made.

i would claim quick as everyones said, at the very least you will stop it happening to anyone else if they sort it quick

After meeting you yesterday shaun, I hope you get it sorted soon, and PULL YOUR JEANS UP.
