Someone's pinched my headunit!

Featured Replies

Returned to my car today to find the drivers door window smashed and headunit missing :(

They pulled of the surround and prised out the headunit complete with holder and cubby hole, ripping all the connectors off the ends on the cable in the process... Why when I still have the removeable front security panel

Atleast the weathers fine and the car isn't soaking wet!

hope insurance sorts it quick... ;)

Scumbag smackeads no doubt, makes my blood boil!!

Why?

Because they they are scum and they can, no other reason!

damn them all the heck!!! :(

im moving my HU into the glove box in my vx and just putting a single din cubby there instead. shouldnt have to do it but thats the way the worlds going :(

what type of HU was it, so people can keep an eye out

Oh man  Sorry to see that. Hope you get it sorted out promptly and with the minimum of fuss.

I know exactly how you feel. My car was done in my driveway last year, and not only did they take my head unit, I'd also been stupid enough to leave my ipod in the glovebox and my golf clubs in the boot, so I lost 100s of pounds worth of gear, lots of which wasn't covered by my insurance. Was horrible.

In a way, you're 'lucky' (if you can call it that) that they smashed your window, as in some parts of the country (Birkenhead being one of them) the modus operandi for thieves is to get a crowbar in the top of your door and bend back the whole door, leaving you needing a whole new door instead of just a window. ******* ********.

Grrr thieving scumbags! I hope you get it sorted quickly :(

Not good :thumbdwn:

Was it a standard system in there?

Steve

Only one thing to say about them - w@nkers.

I hope all their teeth fall out except one and they get toothache.

Theyve made a right bloody mess.... no need to be so stupid about it...

My gran had her stereo nicked last year and they got in by bending the door back and reaching in to unlock the door... they didn't use a crowbar though as there weren't any marks... must have just prised it back with their fingers!!!

Thankfully, the ******** should know that door-bending won't work on Octavias as they're deadlocked.

Sorry to hear about your case, No Waiting :(

Sounds like time for a good upgrade with a front you can remove :)

Sounds from the first post as though he already had a removable front :(

Thats the sad thing about these twocers, he had the face off with him

Thieving scumbags

I had my Astra broke into once, on my driveway. Think this was in 2001/2002

One summer I awoke to hear my Dad saying the car was broke into.

I got up anyway thinking "its a prank from my Dad to get me out of bed"

Looked at the car and sure enough the passenger window was missing.

But they couldnt take anything as the stereo front was in the house.

It made a helluva mess. The worst part was there was picnic that day and I missed it as I was having the window fitted :mad:

Then this year my Dads Transit van was broke into (they should have nicked the useless stereo) Nothing was taken but I had to clean the glass up.:mad:

You'll know who's thieved your stereo if you see it on Ebay or if someone comes round asking for the Fascia panel.

You didnt keep your cars manual/handbook in there?

It's cases like the one above that makes me think about the window security film option. Because even if they don't take anything, you traditionally still have the hassle of clearing up all that glass. And from past experience I know it goes everywhere!

The film should also deter them from trying any harder to access to the vehicle, with the surprise of them not being able to get past the glass, and the extra time they'd need to spend.

One of the available options: Pentagon UK: Car window security film - toughened vehicle safety glass and some demo videos: Safety glass and window security film demo videos

only concern with safety glass is if you need to get out in an emergency it makes it very difficult. however we dont live in baghdad so shouldnt need to be an issue. this is one reason why ive not got all the stereo did have installed in any more the worry of someone seeing it one time and making an attempt for it.

sorry for your bad luck though hopefully your insurance will cover the repairs properly, if you really want to feel positive you could see it as an opportunity.

I had thought about this, but in the initial enquiries I've made previously, it's designed to allow the film (and glass) to be broken from the inside, and allow you to push your way out.

I think that issue might be covered on the Pentagon website.

Steve

Yeah we had security film on the Scooby and the idea was that under compression (ie pushed in from the outside) it prevented any break ins, but from the inside it allowed the glass to be broken easily, although luckily we never had to test it. The film was also tinted too and combined with a Clifford proximity alarm was probably the best deterrent.

Had our old Corsa broken into for the Sony head unit and I feel for you. Such an unnecessary pain. :( Luckily they only took the headunit and ignored all the bank statements, cds etc that were left in the glovebox. On the plus side, they did steal the Eminem cd that was in the player

Chris

I'm now seriously considering it, the more I think of it :(

Which one did you go for Chris, and what sort of price?

Seems fairly resistant

Ours was called "Securefix" film and was tinted (although it can be had clear). Think it cost £250 for all windows bar the windscreen. Ironically, it's fundamentally flawed on the Scooby as it has frameless windows

Thanks for your thoughts guys...

Yep the headunit was a Pioneer AVH-P5700DVD (complete with iPod & BlueTooth units), fitted in via the OEM Single DIN adaptor, and yes I still have the removelable security bit with the buttons on!

Managed to the the window replaced the same day and have now removed most of the glass from inside the car - does anyone know how the side air vents remove, as there is glass in one of them?

If anyone on the West Midlands gets offered a cheap AVH-P5700DVD with no security panel..................

They didn't have a problem getting me out of a car with that on when my 306 was hit.

I think they should cut the thieves hands of Saudi style, as then people would be less inclined to do such things.

Also when a tree fell on a relatives car the main chunk (albeit not the trunk, but still some sizeable branches) hit the side window smashing it and the security film held the glass intact and actually stopped the tree causing far more damage. I was amazed at how solid the glass was even when cubed and only held together by the film.
