1.8T engine startup problems!!!!!!!!

Featured Replies

Hi friends. I am new in this forum and I have been searching without a precise answer to my problems, then I will make a summary.

The engine is an 1.8T AGU engine with cable-throttle. Some time ago I send the injectors for a preventive cleaning process and since that day, cold and warn engine startup is really difficult. Engine comes to live slowly. I need to crank engine almost 3 or 4 seconds before it slowly starts up and finally gets rock steady stable idle at 800-900rpms more or less.

After that car runs really stable, smooth and powerful, but only when engine starts it smells gas at the exhaust, like engine was flooded. I resend injectors to be cleaned and check again and according to the shop it was 100% good and not problems at all.

I have been testing my car with VagCom and it has no DTCs at all. I change the original black engine coolant sensor for the green top one. I logged MAF and seems to be working good, also trying starting engine with MAF disconnected, and the problem is the same. Engine has no misfires at all, runs smooth with no jumps or vacillations then the ignition control unit (ICU) must be good too, I think. I clean connectors of sensors commented here too. Spark plugs are like new. ECU and engine are stock. Throttle body was cleaned. Also injector's cleaning reports indicates that injectors was dirty but after clean it came back with 100% flow, excellent flow pattern and no leaks at all. Inclusive fuel pump primes when I open driver’s door and when I switch ignition key to pre-start position.

I log blocks 2, 3 and 6 with the VagCom and you can find it here,

1.- from engine off, startup to idle at 90ºC normal temp engine operation. You can find this log here: http://www.dropfiles.net//files/581/Log1_05.09.07_9.45pm_002-003-006_SemiCold_to_Idle.xls

2.- from idle, a fast acceleration at neutral speed to almost 6000rpms and idle again. You can find this log here: http://www.dropfiles.net//files/581/Log2_05.09.07_10pm_002-003-006_idle_5krpmacc_idle.XLS

3.- and finally from idle again to engine off. You can find this log here: http://www.dropfiles.net//files/581/Log3_05.09.07_10.05pm_002-003-006_idle_engoff.XLS

Then friends, this is making me nuts......, what else can be bad? Injectors could be leaking a little? fuel pump check valve? bad fuel pressure regulator? a leak?

I really appreciate your ideas and help.

Thanks a lot in advance.

have you done a compression check ?

I'm not sure you're going to like this, but I think your preventive maintenance has resulted in damage to one or more of the injector needles or seats.

I presume it was a cleaning process, in which case the only way I'd consider cleaning injectors is by ultrasonics. They are seriously precision engineering.
