Steering wheel light and VAG.COM

Featured Replies

Hi i have had the steering wheel light on again on my vrs. The power steering still seems to be working and i had the angle sensor changed about 2 years ago when the car was under warranty. It only ever happens when i start the car and its very very cold winter day. Strange never does it during the summer months. Anyway this time it happened and with the light still on and engine running i scanned the car with VAG.COM but the engine section says no fault found. Tried scanning the steering wheel and it says no response from controller. Am i looking in the right area to find the fault code?

Many thanks in advance

Do a full scan.

I don't know about fault codes, but other people have noticed that the steering light sometimes stays on when starting in cold weather - it happened to me last week. Usually turning the car off and restarting it clears the problem.

Try 44 steering assistance, you can also go into measuring blocks and compare the readings for the rate of turn of the steering wheel to how fast you are actually turning it.

Wouldn't it make sense that this is due to the battery voltage dipping more than it should just after startup - indicating that the battery is just about to be on it's way out?

Or am I missing something?

My two pennies worth...

I have the same problem with the power steering light although I have a power drain causing the battery to slightly go down. I disconnected the alternator overnight and everything seemed to be okay...no PS light on the following morning at least I seemed to have found the drain, now I just have to save for a new alternator! I had also replaced the battery...before I bothered to check the alternator :(

As somone else has mentioned restart after a short run then I have no PS light.

My father has a 1000 mile old "new" alternator for a skoda fabia 1.9SDI, I could look in to how much he'd want for it? PM/email me if you're interested...
