BHP/Torque with vagcom

Featured Replies

I don't know how accurate block 020 is i know block 120 seems quite accurate for mine.

SMSTEXT,

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread.

So the 207bhp and 411nm is at the flywheel. Is there a way to work out how much power is lost through the transmission or is that different of every car?

does this link help you

Dyno Power Run - Calculators and convertors

did for mine ((fly hp x 0.88)-10) for fwd

i now get 141.6 i would say pretty close

um - checked the link (very helpful - thanks) and for FWD it works out:

whp =(fly hp x 0.9)-10

EDIT: PS does anyone know why the yanks quote flywheel hp and in the UK its wheel bhp?? Confused as to which is more commonly used?

Thx, works well, measured 182.59bhp @ 5920rpm .. maybe squeeze a little more at more rpm?

Pretty good, 5920rpm is about the peak on the vrs engine. What torque did you get out of interest and i presume your car is totally standard but running 99ron fuel?

185.16 @ 3280rpm..

Completly standard running on Optimax (97ron).. swear its not as fast as it used to be :P

Obviously used to it now..

I thought optimax had been replaced by 99ron v-power?

Hmm maybe - was a shell garage but defo labelled optimax 97 ron rather than 99ron. Maybe been lazy and not changed stickers ? ;)

how exactly are you guys doing your runs.....up a hill...flat...does it make a difference????

It is Supposed to be on a flat road and in Third gear.

thanks...must try it so

You can measure acceleration -

Ross-Tech: VAG-COM Tour: Measuring Blocks

There is also the block 120 Spreadsheet - http://www.ross-tech.net/vag-com/examples/Block_120_Tutorial.xls

Assuming my own experience, I would say that I not agree with with the operation mode proposed into this excel sheet :

Block 120 should be done in 3rd gear to get a more accurate result

Indeed, log the MVB #120 (on gasoline cars) using the third gear can lead to a totally wrong measure, especially for cars chipped ECU.

To be sure of how to measure the torque / power with Vagcom with a good efficiency, I made a comparison last time my car was measured with a real professionnal "Power workbench" (sorry, I don't know the english for "Banc de puissance").

On this real workbench, my 6-gear Seat Leon power is measured using the fifth gear, from 1500 rpm until the breaker (english word for "rupteur" ? ), so around 6800 rpm for a stock car.

Meanwhile the real workbench was operating, I logged the data from MVB #120. Here are the picture to see the results :

(Notice that a real workbench measure is an average of three passes. That's why there are 3 Vaagcom logs and only one from the workbench. And don't be stuck by the poor power of my Leon : she was ill at this time. ;))

Comparing all the data above, we can clearly see that the difference between "real" and vagcom measures is not so important.

For instance, the max. torque is 292 Nm (or 29,77 m/kg) at 3300 rmp et the max power is 192 bhp à 5700 rpm. 8)

So, to sum up, I would say that the only way to get a good image of your torque/power using Vagcom is to get a ride on a long straight line in 5th (in this case) from 1500 to the breaker.

But keep in mind that, anyway, it is just to get an idea, not the real values : no torque sensor is embedded in the car (at least, in Leon and other Golf IV).
