Winter Tyres and the EU

Featured Replies

Anybody know if you need winter tyres on your car to get from Dunkerque to Brugge.

I think that they are not mandatory but would be good if anyone from around that area or who drive regularly could let me know.

Should hopefully be going over for the new year :D

Not too sure about Bruge, but I know the myth for Germany is that if you have an accident, (your fault or not) You could be liable if the police deem that winter tyres might have prevented it, then its the insurance that will worm out of it, rather than being stopped by the police and being done. hope this helps, it may be the same sort of policy.

Winter tyres are not mandatory for these countries, but worth checking the forecast ahead of driving in case you want to put some snow chains in the car....

I'm seriously tempted to get some good but not expensive winter tyres to run through to about march time over here anyway.

Anybody got any opinions of Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme tyres?

I'm reading that they are an all year suitable tyre and if that is the case would be tempted to get a set.

Another thing is does anyone know where you can get these or other good all season tyres at a good price.

I'm assuming that the Falken 452 are not really an all season tyre although they do seem to cope fine with rain.

A fire extinguisher is mandatory in Belgium!

See Road Rules & Driving in Belgium - AngloINFO Brussels (Belgium)

And you'll be extremely unlucky if there's a snowstorm arond New Year in Belgium/the Netherlands (if so, take an extra night at the hotel and next morning it'll probably be washed away by rain...

the winter tyre warning on the maxi dot does that limit you to the speed you put in or does it only bleep when you reach the max speed set?

I think it only bleeps, that is all it does on the golf.
