Egg smell

Featured Replies

Lately I have noticed this rotten egg smell in my car when driving down the motorway. Its not all the time and it only comes through the air vents for about 20 seconds. Its a bad smell and just hope it isnt anything bad! its due its 20k service in 600 miles and thought it might be the air con or something?????

Could be the washer fluid, i had this once, emptied the washer bottle and topped up again, smell gone.

On the motorway, could it be from other cars ?

Sometimes when I let the tailgating 318i I just smoked come past on its way to sell more photocopiers that the stress of attempting to keep up makes the munich munster give off some terrible "eggy" fumes from the cat. Especially as the pilot is probably caning it.:revs:

have you checked the rear/front carpets for being damp/wet? i had this smell on my old car. turned out to be a slight leak from the windscreen bonding which made all the carpets soaking wet and mouldy! the smell did come from the vents too. trouble is though because theres a load of foam under them you often dont notice theyre damp straight away. god i tell you the smell when i lifted them was incredible. hope you get it sorted soon mate

try the washer stuff.ie to strong

Is it possible you have shat yourself?

on petrols yes , but not on diesels

there is probably a smell from the heater box , quite common with aircon

Sounds more like the battery over charging...

Smells more like the battery over charging...

;)

Have you recently had the misfortune of besmirching a member of the opposite sex?

They have been known to be rather vengeful in such circumstances and I have heard reports of eggs being cracked open into the passenger air intakes of a gentleman's motor vehicle which can create an awful pong.

Iv had the car for a year and havent once emptied the washer bottle. The Smell is like the gas released in the morning after a massive session on the lash! Or like someone said I prob shat myself when tryin to fart! lol

Mine smells like that after its been serviced and they top up the washer. If I use it and then park it up for a couple of hours, later it smells like a pub full of stale stella. I was breathalysed (spelling ?) a few weeks ago because the ociffer smelt the screenwash - I hadn't had anything.

...and on those white vRS seats aswell!

Haha, breathalised because the old vRS was kicking up a stink...priceless. :P

It was scary at the time.

I was stopped for one of those "traffic survey" things, the guy with the clipboard goes "sniff sniff", along comes the policeman etc.

Combination of cold day, dirty roads and a strong screen wash mix.
