Does Your Octavia have ....

Featured Replies

Does your Octavia have a warning light to tell you the windscreen washer bottle is almost empty? Mine doesn't.

My last two or three cars (including a Golf) had this feature so i'm surprised the Octy doesn't.

Found this out to my cost today when I was halfway to Aberdeen for a meeting with no water in the washers and filthy roads.:(

Mine does as part of maxidot. Do you have maxidot on your Octy?

Ahh, I'm hearing good things about maxidot....

had it on my old display and on the maxidot, on the standard display its a yellow warning icon that pops up, on the maxidot its a bit graphical ;)

It should have the warning light and a warning chime when the indicator lights up.

Mine has, and I don't have maxidot. There's a warning indicator on the dash just under the small car computer display.

The warning part of the headlight washer system regardless of the MaxiDot.

I think it goes off when there is about 1.5 litres remaining.

The elegance and L&K will get the warning as standard along with any car fitted with xenons as you must have the aforementioned washers fitted with them.

No I don't have Maxidot, will need to look at the handbook and see where it should be .... then contact my dealer!

when i pull the stalk and nowt happens i know ive run out :)

Mine has a 'bong' and a light. Not Maxidot or Xenons.

Are you sure it didn't just freeze solid?

No warning on my 2007MY Octy vRS either. Previous Golf GT TDI had a warning light and an indicator in maxidot. Also everytime I refill the bottle the stream through the jets changes with varying dilutions of screenwash.

I get the warning 'bong'.

vRS with xenons and maxidot - if that makes a difference?

Maybe a loose connection to the sensor for the fluid level? Anything obvious under the bonnet?

I have maxidot and I don't have the warning light. I went to the dealer and they printed me specifications of my Octy and there was: "8W0 - without washer fluid indicator". If it's 8W1 then you have it. Dealer said when I was buying car i needed to order winter package for that... I took only heated front washer nozzles :(

Blown bulb:rofl:

Get warning light and "bong" and don't have maxidot - trim level likely make a difference, mine is an Elegance.

I get the warning bong and display on the maxidot. 07 vRS Tdi.

Do you have headlight washers?

Yep, found out yesterday when it suddenly came up on the Maxidot. I have Xenons though on a vRS so I have headlight washers. Still haven't filled the bottle up yet, and don't recall hearing a 'bong'.

You'll get the windscreen washer icon flash up in amber on the top segment of the maxidot every few seconds, gets irritating after a while but not as irritating as the animated graphic SWMBO found on the Audi A4 :D

07 vRS no zenons, after market maxidot (care of stu ).

No warning on mine either when i ran out on the M42 this morning:eek:

Mine just froze this morning after about 5 minutes on the M/way - it was reading -3Deg on the M40 - They should put heated washer bottles as standard like current Passats (used to be part of the Winter pack I believe?).

Heated washer nozzles would be nice. I had a big freeze up at minus 6 this morning, along with the crap on the roads it didn't make for pleasant motoring.

I don't think it had frozen as it was garaged as always overnight and it hadn't frozen on Monday when it was much colder here.

Haven't had a chance to check the handbook or with the dealer.

As for checking under the bonnet for loose connections etc, thats not really my department being a very non technical type!

Marcus, do you have headlight washers? you should have 2 little colour coded plastic covers just under each headlamp.

If you have these, you have the washers and the associated low level warning in the washer fluid tank.

If you don't have these you don't have the washer system and no low level warning system.

On the vRS you will only have the washers if you opted for the xenon headlight system.

Belive me, it's not so good at all.

If the temperature is under 0˚C :thumbdwn: !! If your windscreen is cold, it freezes up and then you have winning combination: park your car and clean the glass manualy! It happend to me on -4˚C :(

mine froze up after about 30 miles of driving the other night. Left work, as sea level, at about 1 deg. route takes me over fairly high ground and temp had dropped to about -6. washers were working so I thought I was ok then one time they sort of spluttered on to the windscreen and the water froze - scary stuff!!!!!!!!!!!
