Having to sell the my Fabia vRS to free up some money so i've been looking at high mileage Passats 03 onwards for the sort of money i'm wanting to spend. I've heard you can put huge mileages on these cars (tdi 130 engines) (same engine as in Furby??) What do i need to look out for?? Obviously FSH is a must and belt changes?? Anything else?? PD130 is basically the same , just fitted differently in the car , high mileage should not be a problem as long as the servicing has been carried out

everything he said.... I know of a few PD130 engined taxi's ,and the drivers say, as long as they are serviced properly, they run for ever....

My 03 TDI ticked over 130k miles today. Runs just lovely, nice and tight, looks like new... what can I say???

There are a few common problems however. Water in the passenger footwell will kill the convenience ECU. This is normally due to either the scuttle panel being fitted incorrectly or the plenum chamber drains being clogged with leaves. Radiators seem to last 100k, but they are only £60 to change. Boost pipe joins will probably leak, pence to fix with new clips and seals. The undertrays always get smashed, so check the fixings are all secure or budget about £50 to get them all sorted with a new tray. Bodywork should be immaculate.

With an 03 on, thats about all the common problems to be honest. Very reliable indeed, easy to maintain, nice to drive. Go for a Sport (16" wheels and lower suspension) or an SE to make sure you get the most toys. Heated seats are a nice extra to keep an eye out for. Aim to spend between £4k and £5k, and about 120k, and you won't go far wrong.
