Boot trim removal

Featured Replies

OK i've got the trusty rear washer pipe fault at the moment and everytime i use the rear washer the boot fills with water. The water coming flooding out from the boot door trim.

I'm hoping the pipe has come off as per the usual fault.

My question is what's the best way to remove the trim around the bottom of the boot door??? Is it to start from around the lock area or from up the side of the window??? To be honest i've just tried both and got nowhere what-so-ever. Apart from getting very sore fingers.

I'm gonna nip to the dealers first thing in the morning but suspect with it being christmas/new year they'll not be able to fit it in for a good while so wanted to know how best to remove it to try and get it done over the holiday period while i'm off.

I've done a few searches and the best i could find was..... give it a good tug...... Just wanted to expand on it slightly etc.....

Cheers

Dave.

it really helps if the trim is as warm as possible , as this makes it more flexible when pulling it off , and less liable to cracking , maybe try and get a trim tool or flat screwdriver behind it to lever it off , but as you've already mentioned, the best way to get it off is pull like fook

also , really the side and top trims need to be removed first , as its a pig to get back on with them still fitted

I had the same problem a good hard yank gets it off and getting back on just tap it back on with the palm of your hand. I had no issues and it was pretty durable

I had to take this panel of my wife's Polo in the summer and even then it still cracked where it was narrowest at the base. Remember to rescue and account for all the spring-steel clips - I seem to remember that they should all be fitted into the metalwork first. Also be aware that when you think that things are going well, some of the plastic trim's fixing tangs will have bent over and not entered the spring-steel retainer - so try to get another pair of hands to keep the trim in place while you bend it up here and there to check that the tangs are entering the retainers, then thump the trim at each of the fixing tangs. Isn't it a cruel world when this trim needs taking off in cold weather, I had to remove my daughter's Ibiza 6K boot trim an few years ago in winter, yes your hands get very sore - that time I did not break that trim - strange!

Thanks chaps.......

I'm gonna get up early tomorrow morning and try and get to the dealers for about 8:30-9:00 and see, if i ask very nicely and point out it's only a 5 minute job, whether someone could just nip and pop the trim off and pop the washer pipe back on while i hang around. Hopefully they might do it before any cars that are booked in even arrive etc...... If not i'll see how long it is till they can fit the car in and maybe have a go myself during the holiday period. Then if i manage it i can just cancel the visit etc....

Cheers

I had the same problem at the weekend which i sorted this afternoon... as vyvyan from the young ones would say it took "a subtle blend of psychology and extreme violence" to get the trim back on...

snapped one of the clips in the process but hey ho. its back on now!!

Steve

I think i'm suffering from this as well at the mo.

My boot open light has also started coming on intermittently and the alarm sounds just after I lock the doors. I'm hoping that my washer fluid hasn't leaked and fried things!!!

i wonder if this is why my rear washer doesn't seem to be working, i haven't checked the boot yet.

Well just to update......

I never got to go to the dealers on xmas eve..... In fact i didn't get to do anything at all over xmas till yesterday morning due to suffering from a stomach bug that seems to be going round at the mo.

Still i lost a stone in weight rather than put any on!!!

I'm gonna try and get down there tomorrow morning to see if they can have a quick go while i wait around..... Will take the trusty DS lite to keep me occupied if not i'll book it in but have another go myself in the meantime.

I'm not holding out much hope for them doing it tomorrow even if i do point out it's only a five minute job etc.... and i don't mind waiting around for a while etc... rather than having to book it in.

I'll let ya all know how it goes.

With regard my original question though....... Nobody seems to have said whether they got the panel off working from the lock area out or the outer pillers in.....

Cheers

Dave.

i got it off going from the lock out,as has allready been said, its easier to get back on if you take all the trim pieces off:thumbup:

HaHa, did it! Pretty much just ripped the panel off and luckily none of the clipsl/plastic broke. Found the connector took it off the switch and that has turned the tailgate open light off as well as the open door light off which is fine as I just need it to pass the MOT then get it in the garage to be repaired completly.

Thanks for the wisdom guys, how are you with women troubles wonder if you can help me there.............sadly i doubt it , thats FUBAR'd cheers lol

Woman troubles are easily solved, the word begins with a 'D'.
