Any ideas? installed and read few other threads and cannot get it to work.

Aftermarket cable? By that I mean not a genuine Ross-Tech? If so, contact your vendor. Looks like the cable is "knackered" as those of you on that side of the pond like to say.

Have you set the port up correctly in device manager? try to get a port with nothing else in it then match to vag-com.Also you need to plug into the car to get it to work.

Is it a usb cable? if so did you apply the drivers to convert it to a serial cable?

sounds like you need to pick the correct com's port i.e. if its usb click usb.

If its a after market usb cable you need the software converter to make the computer think its a serial cable. Then you need to match up the com port in device manager to the com port in vag-com

are you in the car when trying it , and do you have the ignition on ?

i had the same thing happening to mine before i realised the iggy needed to be on , and mine only works on COM port 3 although its a USB cable

I installed the software off the disk and once i had plugged the cable into the laptop XP installed a few bits onto itself that where along the lines of USB to serial connections. i tried in the car and no luck so i did a search on here and downloaded FTDI USB Driver as recommended on a thread that had the same problems and still didn't work. the reason the pic has it on Serial 3 is because i tried all the others and one thread mentioned the software does not allow it to work on USB for some reason.

How do i do this?

It maybe possible the com port device manager has put the cable on is poss port 5,6 or 7.You will need to check

sorry im gonna be annoying now and ask how can i check this?

Plug your cable into the usb port you are going to use,use this port and only this port from now on.

Go to device manager ,select "ports (com and LPT)" there should be something like "usb serial port com 2" or which ever number it says.

if its higher than com 4 then you need to change it.

Select usb serial port and click properties, port settings, advanced and change the port to one lower than 4 but which is not in use.

Hope this helps

make sure ignition is on.

It looks ok now

yup ignition is on and also tried with engine running and always came up with "no responce from controller!"?

i used the select module control and engine, and various others. i tried auto scan and nothing came up.

It doesn't look good then,i usually get that up when the ignitions off.

Good luck

This is the cable i have CLICK ME and it sais for 2002 onwards and mine is 2001. does this make a difference? also the LED glows green.

yeah looks like its set up ok.You just need vag-com set to com1 to match.Other than this there is maybe a problem with the cable.

I have the ebay one which works brilliantly.

did you get this sorted, I'm having exactly the same problem tonight...

Hi all

I'm new to the forum but not new to vrs'. I had one for 3 years up to late 2006 and then sold it, had a peugeot, then an Audi and this week I got another vrs as I, and my wife missed it so much. I think she missed the boot (shopping) size!!

As to your problem I had exactly the same problem today. Vag com found the cable and the interface but wouldn't find the controller:eek:!

I got so fed up I went back to the Audi (which I've Vag commed before) and plugged it in. This also showed no controllers which really p**sed me off:mad:.

I then re-read vag com's FAQ and it said to close all the additional non essential programs on the start bar. I did this and was able to get into the Audi controller no problem! I then plugged it into the vrs and same same. Very happy now I know what the problem was:thumbup:
