V/RS Service time! help slight worry

Featured Replies

right im concerned my VRS is in for its service tomorrow and the dealer says it only need a minor service oil, filters etc? now ive just checked my Service history and on all the stamps non of them have the "tooth belt" box ticked?

now my dealer serviced the car when i got it and it looks like theyve forgot to stamp the book, and at the time they never reset the light, so im just wandering if it has been done or not? will the dealer know?

im just worried as the car has now done just over 76,000 Mile's and i dont plan on buying a new engine..

thx

Mark

Would the dealer not have a record of previous works on their computer system.....?

That should be able to confirm what was done??? That's all I can think of.

they didnt seem to know on the phone but im hoping they can clear things up when i drop the car off tomorrow

Would they not be able to tell if it's been changed by the amount of wear on it?

hmm dont see why not, ohh well, see what happens tomorrow i suppose, thx for your replys!

Mark.

If the dealer can't confirm in writing or prove with an invoice that the belt has been changed don't hesitate to get it replaced!

You probably knew that anyway, but I just thought I'd say.

AFAIK, the only way to check a toothed belt for wear is to take it off the car, and if its off the car, then stick in a new one!

In line with the consensus, "If in doubt, whip it out".

right ive just got back from the dealers, they say its not due till 80,000 yet the car has 76,945 miles on the clock???? thought they would of just changed it now.. or are they wanting more money??

Have you owned the car from new? if not it might be worth phoning any of the dealers where the car was prevopusly serviced..

You know what these garages/dealers can be like..just date, odo and stamp it and a signature and youre off! or even request previous invoices with previous keeper details removed?

the cambelt is 4 years or 60k, whichever occurs first. As you are now on 70K plus it should have at the latest been changed at the last service.

i bought the car used but the service's have always been delt wih by the same dealer, the same one i got the car off now ive been told my 4 year service is also coming up soon.. so i really dont know what todo now, to be honest the service ive just had seems to be a complete waste of time? as its due again very very soon.

As Mannyo said i'd advise a cambelt change at 60k or 4/5 years. It can seem like an expensive job, but it isnt when you compare what it could cost if it goes!

this isn't actually right, its different depending on the year of vRS... mine was an '05, and was also 80k or 4 years :) so what his dealer says sounds right....

being as its cso close to 80k though, I thought they would have advised to have it done anyway......

its an 04 vrs, and yea i thought they would have just changed it now saves taking it in again

It is 80k Kilometers / 60k MILES or 4 years whichever is the sooner

It is a sore cost to bare, but not as much as when it goes

I had a company Pug, had a full 45k service and drove 200 yards away from the garage, stopped at Traffic lights and bang, a new engine (Pug 206 ninemonths old 45k) serviced every six weeks from new :-(

Lease Company paid :-)

It is true that some vRS's are 80k cambelt changes, mine was, I checked it with all the dealers I went to (serching for a decent one over two years and 80k of motoring) and after some people on here said there wes never a vRS with 80k (MILES!) cambelt intervals, I also contacted skoda direct, and they confirmed that my car had 80k cambelt changes...

Ditto. phoned the garage this morning and asked they said mines 80k even at another local skoda dealer they also said 80k, but if it goes ill be holding them responsible lol

but still dont see why they couldnt do it yesterday :thumbdwn:

thx for all the help

Mark.
