Fabia brake problems

Featured Replies

Hello.

I have a question about brake disc.If this is not correct address,i apologise.

I am new owner of Fabia 1,2 motor, year of made 2004.Owner before me he drive this car about 30 000 kilometres, then i buy it.First thing that i can see was the brake disc was curved. When i suddenly brake there was vibrations and car is turn slowly to the left side of the road.Only when i was breaking at high speed or i stop suddenly.

Trustee automechanical servis establish the discs are really curved and they replaced them with new one.The brake pads was not replaced only discs.

After this i drive this car about 25 000 kilometres and the story happens again. The car is shaking and slowly turning to the left when i brakes.

The replaced discs are original from our Škoda servis.

Are the discs the same and only one for Škoda Fabia or can servis replace it with better from Škoda factory? What is your suggestion for new brake disc?

What is your opinion, what can i do?

I will be very happy for your help or information.

From Slovenia.

Marko,

they should have changed the pads at the same time if the discs where that worn.

I would just fit new standard componenets :)

Oh, and welcome :)

I duuno about that model Fabia, but isn't 18,600 miles (30k kms) a short life for a set of rear brake discs? Given that they were replaced and then in less time than the originals lasted, there is evidence that the problem has resurfaced, I think it points to an issue with something other than the disks themselves, but I could only make (an uneducated) guess as to what it might be.

Opps.... Sorry guys (and girls)... wrong thread... More speed, less haste!!

I had new pads and discs (front and rear) at the beginning of the year, from the moment they went on they 'screech' when slow braking... you can almost tell in what sequence they are doing it (near side front then off side then rear... etc)... I sound like a lorry braking at traffic lights... unless I wait to the last second to brake (and hope nothing goes wrong!). Will consider uprated parts next time (or sooner).

This is a completely dumb set of questions, but here goes any way;

1) Is there ever a grinding noise when braking?

2) Are there ever sparks from the wheels / brakes when braking?

3) Is the car down on power and or using a lot of fuel?

There are some possible causes as I see it:

a) A stuck brake piston is causing excessive pad and disc wear, and disc distortion due to excessive heat

B) There is no friction material on the surface of the pad which is in contact with the disc

c) The pads are installed the wrong way round.

Markos a Ferrari driven hard uses less brake components than your car and something is seriously wrong and may be dangerous - please be careful.

Anyone any better educated thoughts?

Hi again.

Thank you for helping me.I was informed from service where i replace the disks.I must buy another two front discs, because the warranty for discs is 15000 kilometres driven and replacing was made 23.5.2007.

Now i like to replace both:pads and discs. Are original Skoda discs and pads ok or i can change to another brand? And if i can what brand?

Thank you again
