Need your expert opinion regarding Oil Leak in my car

Featured Replies

Hi

3 months back I bought a skoda ocativa 2.0 litre petrol 2001 reg vechile. It had clocked 64K miles and was driving fine.

Recently the engine management light started appearing and Oil light also came up.

When I went to a local garage , they mentioned that there is a oil leak and there is some problem with the engine valve. They have mentioned that it will cost me around 500 to 600 Pounds.

I know we may need to change the timing belt after 65000 miles but it came as surpise when they said that there is a problem with the Engine valve.

I thought Skoda engine are very reliable and I am totally confused how come the engine valve will create a problem at this low miles.

Please provide some expert opinion on this .

Thanks

Engine valve?? If they mean the inlet/exhaust valves then its a head off job, can see how that could be £600 at dealer prices...

If its valves, then the oil is being burnt more than a "leak". Are you getting oil leaking on the drive??

From your vague description it wil be very difficult to give an expert or even informed opinion.

Were you given any fault codes as to why the management light is on?, it can come on for any number of emmisions related reasons.

By oil light do you actually mean the warning light?, if so was it amber or red?, sometimes people say oil warning light when they are referring to the oil service reminder that comes up where the speedometer mileage reading is.

From which side is the oil leaking?, what exactly are the estimating £500 to £600 for?

My experience of 2 litre AQY petrol engines is that they do like to pop their management lights on, but then again working at a garage I only tend to see them when they have troubles. Also bear in mind that it is nearly a 7 year old car that has done 64,000 miles.
