Just bought a VRs, and...

Featured Replies

Well first impressions are excellent. It's a massive step up from my S-Reg DTurbo 306...

However, there's a few niggling things I just wanna pick y'all's brain about.

My rear wiper doesn't seem to inject water? I'm pushing the correct control (I think), the right hand stick forwards right? Is there a seperate reserve for water for the rear as my normal reserve is full...

Second! I have heard from various sources that these Fabia's have very poor front suspensions? What are the actual telltale signs? I'm getting a HELL of a lot of noise from something in front of me, but I can't tell if it's OTT dash creaks or knockin from the suspension :eek: Is there anything I can upgrade up front that'll sort it out?

And thirdly, umm... I've forgotten. Anyhoo if any1 could hit me back with anything that'll elievate my concerns I'd be very grateful.

Cheers in advance,

~Tom

Check if your boot is wet, sometimes the rear washwipe pipe comes off :)

And it takes some time for water to come through at first. Give it 4 or 5 seconds to come through - If nothing after a while, a hose may have popped off. Have a look under the car. Usual culprit is it popping off by the nearside front wheel. :) - especially in the cold weather.

Is that picture in your avatar taken of the back of your Fabia?

Just seems strange because it is the new style fabia font but on an old skool Fabia.

Have you sold your car then?

Or is it just by chance... I like it btw

maybe Orta just took a copy/crop of Bigw's photo and used it as an avatar ?

Different Photo, mine never had a flash on it, poor old N91 took it, and Its not sold :) just resting :P

I like the look, put it on Initially just so I could get behind the badges clean while the old ones were off and thought I would try freshening it up a bit, thought I would take it off if I didnt like it but its grown on me.

Welcome, glad you are happy with the car.

Correct control, and no there is no other water reserve apart from the one under the bonnet.

as for the suspension, the classic signs of the console bushes going, are creaking noises over speed bumps, soggy front end, and (in my case) uneven tyre wear.... not sure if that has affected anyone else though, they wore normally when the console bushes were replaced on mine....

Not sure about the badging guys. The bloke who owned the vehicle before me worked for Skoda in Peteborough so had plenty of access to later badging?? I've never really taken much notice. And yes my avatar is a picture of my own car!!

Cheers for the advise guys, I'll be checking under the car for loose pipes next time I can actually get a look at it in the light!

As for the front suspension, is it a costly repair the part that normally go wrong?

Console bushes are about £8 each but a pig to fit. Recommended change to Seat Ibiza Cupra bushes as they're non voided and last far longer with improved steering feel. Front ARB drop links are also common to go. These are about £35 for the pair from the dealer and a DIY to fit. ;)

Cool, how much are the Cupra items and would they have to be purchased from Seat? As my nearest Seat is a VERY long way away.

Welcome.

HELL of a noise from suspension. Read on.

Within a couple of months of purchase my two year old Fabia vRS began to sound as if the front end suspension was falling apart. Dealer replaced the drop links. Problem solved - felt like it was a new car in fact. Could hardly believe the wear in two wee links could be transformed into the noises I was hearing.

A few weeks later an intermittent clunking sound developed; again it seemed to be coming from the front LHS suspension. Once more back to the dealer and to my amazement all that was required to solve the problem was a large dollop of silicone grease applied to the gearbox mount. Skoda had already circulated an instruction sheet to this effect.

Obviously, your car might be suffering from something quite different but in my case these were the fixes.

Good luck any way; I know exactly how you feel.

the rear washer pipe can pop apart in any number of places , the favourites are

1, at the bottle

2, at the joint at the back of the engine compartment

3, at the joint behind the rear wheel arch trim

4, at the joint inside the tailgate

get a helper to operate the washer , then check around the vehicle to see where the water is running out onto the floor

Welcome.

I would second this. Replaced my tyres and it was much noisier for some reason, just thought at first I would have to live with it. Took it in for an MOT and service and was told I needed a new front ARB as the bushes had gone - £215. They said it had to be replaced all at the same time.

"I have a warranty" I said, followed by a week of chasing to get them to accept it. Fair enough though the sales department paid for the work to be done and it really does feel like a brand new car - quieter than before.

My rear washer pipe came off at the joint at the back of the engine near the brake pipes standing at the front of the car it's on the left hand side

About £9 for the Cupra ones and as far as I know, yes, only from a Seat dealer. ;)

Drop links would be first port of call though IMO. Very common failure and easy to replace yourself. The dealer ones are also overpriced too IMO....you can get a set that do exactly the same thing for about £17 from ordinary motor factors.

Just make sure you have both sides jacked up at the same time when replacing them otherwise the ARB will be under tension and it'll make the job nigh on impossible once you've undone the 1st one. :)

I've finally had a day off! And I've found where the water is leaking, it is coming from the passenger side front wheel arch...

However the area is obviously quite difficult to get to so I was wondering how I go about repairing this? Will I need a new part?? And will I be able 2 fit it myself?

does it only leak when the washer is operated ? if it does , then the pipe will have popped apart at a connector , easy to push back together when accessed

if it leaks as soon as you top up the water i suspect the bottle could be broken or the pipe is off at the pump

a replacement bottle will be required if that is broken , just refitthe pipe otherwise

Only when operated... I'll get it jacked up to have a look. I'll take some pictures and post them here if I remember for anybody else who has the same problems to use as a reference.

congrats on your purchase mate mine clunks on the suspension when turning on an even road but in straight lines no problems at all is this normal on the vrs then?

must say neve had a problem with my suspension
