TDI engiine swap

Featured Replies

Hi im not sure if this is the right place to post this but i have a 1999 octavia 1.9 tdi estate with the engine code agr, it has done 327000 miles and has finally given up the ghost. Can anyone tell me if any of the other 1.9 tdi engines with other codes will fit? its not worth me buying a new engine as the cost of it would be far more than the car iis worth so its either a seconhand engine or off to the scrap yard which would be a shame, any help would be appreciated, Thanks

I think you "might" be able to use the AHF engine, and more remotely, maybe the ASV engine. But I would look for the same engine code. You should be able to find a low miler (say 60,000) somewhere. Quite a common engine I would imagine, being the TDI.

Not sure if it's any use, but the AGR lump was also used in the Golf, Bora, Beetle, Polo (apparently), Leon and Audi A3 so these might be possible donor cars as well. Most list its use between 1998 and 2003 when I guess it was dropped in favour of the PD engines.

:) What's happened to the original engine? Is it beyond repairing?

At 327k, it might be economically more worthwhile doing a whip out, whip in job, than actually breaking into the old engine and repairing what's gone wrong. :)

:) I agree, but I enjoy a challenge, and I reckon it'd be cool to give such a high mileage engine even more miles!

A lot of the cost involved with engine rebuilds is the labour, but if the guy is doing his own repairs it might be worthwhile fixing/replacing the broken part. I much prefer to repair stuff than replace, but nowadays it's not "that" often viable.

thanks everybody i feel like i want to take it apart to find out what happened but at that high mileage im csared what i might find so if i cant get an engine at the right price its going to the breakers.
