Waxes

Did my fathers car in November and it still looks great now. Water still beading and it was a doddle to put on with a foam applicator and came off.

Either you are not applying it correctly or something else is wrong. Colli is apparantly good for 6 months and the fathers car looks like the day I just applied it and is beading really well.

EDIT:

Just to say this was colli applied with a foam applicator, buffed off by hand with a microfibre cloth after Megs DC1/DC2 bought on offer from halfrauds. The colli was in a winter deal pack with the applicators and 3 MF cloths so the whole lot worked out about £25.

When I did the car it was cold, damp and I was interrupted from time to time by rain and so would have to dry the car before continuing.

I can't say I understand why people say colli is a pig as I find it much easier than stuff like SRP, Mer or turtlewax ever was even in winter.

If you want something cheap and really easy that should last for ages, just polish the car and then put a couple of coats of turtlewax gloss guard over the freshly polished paint. That used to last me for ages :)

Use the Gloss Guard first, then 2 or 3 coats of collinite.

the results as I have said are amazing.

I dont expect to have to do it again until the spring

Here is mine done last week:

I find Collinite easy to use. You need to be careful not to put it on in very thin layers, using a damp applicator/cloth but other than that it's one of the easiest waxes I have worked with.

I was told to do a coat then leave it 30 mins and do another... and build them up. It does seem to work very well for me.

All good debate fellas :)

I did exactly that on my car....

Looks f**king great to me, but then I would think so as I worked my **** off doing it.

Hmmmm waxes.... Zymos, Swissol and now using SmartWax, althought very tempted to try some of the new Dodo wax which has had good reviews.

but i expect your fathers car has been sat still all that time too!!

What since November.. No he puts a good few hundred on the car every week.

So in laymans terms what are you actually doing putting on a coat, buffing it and then putting another on or you just layering it letting it dry and putting another layer on? reason i ask is it doesnt matter what i do with it it still looks crap in hot weather, cold or warm.

Get a foam (or apparently also microfibre applicator pad) and put on the thinnest layer you can easily do. Let the colli dry to a light haze, not rock solid, and buff off.

You can then wait an hour and do the same again.

That should then give you a good hard layer of wax that should last a long time.

As for looks good, well that is down to personal taste :)

well im not doing anything wrong then maybe my tin is a pile of tosh then.

Sorry if I've missed this before, but what products have you got underneath the Collinite?

Steve

i tend to get good results by washing(two bucket method)using autoglym shampoo, then megs clay kit, then autoglym srp, then autoglym high gloss finnish then two or three layers of megs tec wax.

Works for me:thumbup:

Might try some of this collinite stuff,if i ever get round to buying a pc

Very true.. I've used Turtlewax gloss guard under my winter coat as I already had it.

The really good wax layer was frustrating today though as it was raining very heavily and the wax meant this was beading and rolling off the car at a rate of knots....

Right over the door, so I had to dodge the mini river :(
