Maxidot installed

Featured Replies

Hey people, finally got round to fitting my maxidot today.

I have now got a brill little display that shows me when my doors are open and which door in particular.

Still some teething problems as the rev counter is inacurate and the speedo is out abit at 25mph gps it shows about 30 :(

Hopefully these settings can be adapted, but i did read somewhere that only the 6y1 and 6y2 dash pods can be adapted.:(

If anybody has any info about speedo adaption it would be much appreciated ;) Pm if you want to remain annoymous. :D

heres some pics for those that dont know what i am raving about :D

Could I just clarify. Have you managed to retrofit an OEM maxidot pod to a Fabia vRS?

How difficult was it, and how much did it cost?

Frickin' awesome!! Loving that.

Always thought the standard Fabia dashpod was a bit basic.

Nearly there, you've got further than I did, any ideas what's causing the remaining problems yet?

The speedo difference could be caused by the different gearbox used on later vRS's.

I think its the fact that the speedo and rev counter constant is wrong, just reading some info a kind person sent me ;) about changing the speedo constant. :D

One other problem is its now got 18k on the clock car should have 47k. But before anyone shouts at me, my mates bobbing over to correct this mileage error :D

Hopefully fingers crossed wont be long

Just read something which would suggest it cant be the gearbox as the speedometer gets its input from the abs wheel speed sensors not the the gearbox sensor.

Good idea though

I have :D

cost well....... alot. I was lucky enough to purchase Jmd's pod which he got from stu's GB.

Glad it's all in now.

I knew it would work as I'd seen it for my own eyes on another car but it was just a case of working it out.

I've just checked and I do have the info required to correct the speedo problem but I'm just not sure on how it's done with VAG-COM.

PM me your email addy over and I'll send it.

Well today i managed to fix one of the problems i came across, with the help of a german site and a good old online translator :D

The problem i had was that the rev counter was under reading by about 500rpm, thought it was a bit strange when it was showing idle at 400rpm

I then proceeded to notice that the needle in the off position was well below the 0 mark.

Had a quick look on google and found a german site which had some interesting maxidot pictures, with the help of a german translator and te picture guides i opened up the dash pod and moved the needle back to zero....... Technical stuff eh?

Anyway thats one problem fixed, now just to sort the speedo error :D

So is that it for problems? Can't believe it went in that easily.... :D

Coming along nicely then.

still got the small problem of the speedo being out, doesnt really bother me tbh as ive got the gps speed on the origin, but would be nice to get right for when i sell the car. I am off to ;) this afternoon for another session on the VAS machine  so hopefully fingers crossed will be fully working for this evening.

 who said it was easy ;) Its taken along time to get this far, stu's been a great help with the stuff he knows ;) (cheers stu)

Wouldnt be anywhere without your knowledge matey  And for getting the units in the first place

When you've got it all working you'll have to make some notes just in case anyone else needs it. I do have another brand new unit here which belongs to WW so I guess if he decides to fit it he'll need some pointers.

Already on it my friend, everything i have done i have written down. Like you said before this does need doing on a VAS machine, as vag com doesnt support the guided functions needed to change the tachometer input signal.

I know wardy has one too, i think hes thinking about bobing over here and letting the person who did mine do his too.

Will keep ya posted on the speedo error problem

Now I know what Maxidot is, I thought it was just a posher name for the trip computer. Maxidot's do look better.

Now I know what Maxidot is, I thought it was just a posher name for the trip computer. Maxidot's do look better.

Its a muilti dot lcd screen which shows all kinds of info from door positions to radio station, it also shows diagnostic information too as i found out the other day.

One main advantage of the maxidot is that i can have outside temp and time displayed all the time then cycle throught journey info such as mpg etc.

IIRc the new fabia octavia and roomster have these as an option, and you only got maxidot on the mk1 fabia if you got the factory fitted sat nav.

I would imagine it's actually pretty rare in the UK - I wonder how many there are?

you only got maxidot on the mk1 fabia if you got the factory fitted sat nav.

Which sucks ***...... Cycling through the display for temp etc all the time is annoying.

I'd imagine they are rare considering it was an £1800 option for Splat Nav on the Fabia.

All you need now is to get vagtacho and get the miles to empty and the welcome message activated. I have sen the speedo problem in a cluster swap on a Golf. The software coding all that was needed to change via vagcom.

I have the vagtacho lead and software v2.2 and its not compatable with the seed-key protected maxidot pod.

Do you have anymore info on changing the dash pod coding with vagcom?

Thanks alot

John
