Toyo Proxes T1rs

Featured Replies

Hi guys i know you have probably been asked this a million times but here goes - I have just fitted a set of 225/45/17 toyos to my mk1 vrs and just wondered if anyone has any ideas on the pressures or does every body just run the pressure the same as standard its just that they look a little soft on the standard pressure and wondered if any one else has been there done that as it seems to be the norm to upgrade to this size

cheers

Dave

I used something like 32psi.

33 here

Same here 32/33 for me

Im thinking about getting some proxes next, what are they like for road nosie?

About 32-33 when I had them. Awesome grip but they only lasted 7k, as for road noise iirc they were quite noisy but I may be wrong they weren't on there long enough for me to tell

I was running 205/50/17 proxes before i went to the bigger size and i thought that they werent as noisy as the contisports that it came with and MILES better grip and feel but they do wear pretty quickly but thats a happy trade off for smiles per miles the car feels much more planted on the 225/45s though and guys thanks for the tyre pressure advice,:thumbup::thumbup:

i run with 32psi alround no probs and goodyear f1 good in all weather.

Awesome grip but they only lasted 7k,

 I got 16K out of my front ones, but then I drive like a granny :)

I had T1R (the title is confusing, have you got T1R or T1S?) on my Civic Type R, they were *loads* quieter than the stock Bridgestone Potenzas. Lasted longer, too, and were much better in the wet. They were great tyres, at least partly because they were cheap compared to the competition (this is 3 years ago).

Where they fell down was a soft side wall, so they always looked under-pressure, and the car felt like it was rolling a bit in hard cornering. The Civic uses 205/45 spec tyres.

I loved the Toyos enough I wanted them on my Octy vRS and M3 when the time came, unfortunately for the Octy the garage screwed up and ended up giving me Eagle NCT5 for even less (they're rubbish even at £30 discount per tyre, worse in every regard than the ContiSport2 the car came with) and then Eagle GSD3 were on offer for the M3.

Again, a supplier screw up meant those weren't available (the entire bay of 22 sets was missing when the computer said they were in stock!) but Avon ZZ3 came out even cheaper and have long had a good reputation with the Scooby types. They're quite good, but I'll probably be back to the Toyos next time, even though they're not cheap any more.

7K, I think you need to smooth out your driving style, Ok my cars a 4x4 but it gets driven hard but I avoid the traffic light grand prixs, I get about 10K out of the fronts & 15 out of the rears, thats with 356 bhp being stuffed through them.

As for grip they are superb but suffer from grip loss like all normal road tyres when temperatures drop below about 5 deg C

For anyone after even more grip try the Toyo R888's, truly awesome but they definately wont last long, I got about 5K out of a set but loads of :D:D:D Word of warning they are useless in standing water, fine in the wet but if you hit a puddle its like hitting ice

look at the goodyear eagle f1 asymmetric, they came out top of evos tyre test, however they didn't test the toyo's against them as they couldn't get any in time.

Jeusus guys i must be doing something wright or driving like an old fart.

I have Toyo T1-s tyres and have done almost 20k and still have about half the tread left on the fronts.

As for tyre pressure 31-32 psi, depending on weather conditions ie: 2lb less if icey.

Seconded, I get about 5k out of a set too :)
