Doing your own tuning (inc. S/C)...

Featured Replies

Hi,

Has anyone used a KWP200+ to tune ther vRS?

Any good?

Link:

KWP2000+ Plus ECU Flasher Chip Tuning/Tuner Kit OBD2 on eBay, also, Diagnostic Tools Equipment, Garage Equipment Tools, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 18-Dec-07 00:48:20 GMT)

Also, has anyone ever supercharged a vRS, as you dont need power over 4k rpm, and it would put the power down nicely to get traction. ??

Dave

Never heard of a supercharged diesel before?

I wouldnt bother, not only is that a cheap chiese copy of the kwp2000 but it is copying something that was rubbish before :D

They are very unstable in there operation. you could end up with a useless silver box which used to control your engine.

also getting the maps is another problem, tuners wont like to supply you with maps as they pay alot of money for real professional flashers and hate seeing people mess their cars up.

my advice would be to save for a proper map or buy a byte shooter if you can afford one :D

Cheers for the info on KWP's.

Ive driven my mates dads merc he had converted to S/C. (he'd drunk way too much).

It was a sweet drive. It was a 2.5 TDi, which i know would make a difference compared to my 1.9.

Any help would be great.

ps, can you get stroker kits for the PD engines (a stroker kit changes the crank to allow the pistons to travel further, thus increasing the 'cc' of said engine).

Dave

If you do a search on the KWP unit you'll probably find that a couple have tried DIY and failed.

why you would want a stroker kit on a derv is beyond me,it would limit revs even further,as they struggle to rev,so instead of a 4750rpm red line you may end up 500 below that.

would you really trust your ecu with a cheep box from ebay people that sell them dont care about your car they just want your money i would never dream of useing that.

Good point about the stroker kit, i forgot about the rev's dropping.

So would boring out be a good idea to increase 'cc' maby with low comp pistons?

Ive decided againsed the ecu flasher now.

Thanks.

If you do a search on here - you'll find the gradual story of how people modded their cars, with all the mistakes along the way.

Suggest you build it up for strength/reliability with some uprated components (engine/brakes/suspension) and then get it custom tuned. If that's not satisfying then there's always propane/NOS..

Heard that there are stroker kits/oversized pistons to bring it to 2.1 litres but no-one including the real pro's have done this, so you'd be off on your own in Jason terrority (scary thought!!)

Cheers

Bas
