As you can see all looks good in there. I did notice that I have 2 types of pushrod. 4 of each. Is this the norm?

The pushrods need to be in the right slots and from where they originally came as one is of a harder material than the other. This shouldn't be your problem though unless they have been removed at the same time you did your timing chain.

I think it is one of the following:

Valve timing out from when chain was fitted.

Inlet manifold gasket stuffed

misadjusted tappets

The reason i give for this is that all will make it sound like a tractor and give noise from the rocker area. I would say that you have been desperatly unlucky if your valve gear has worn after just 60,000 miles.

My car has had the chain done at about 70,000 miles and made a dramatic difference but was still chugging and making a bit of a racket till the manifold gasket was changed Now it runs as sweet as a nut.

Hi guy's,

Thanks for all the replies. I've checked and checked and all seems ok. Must be just worn valve gear. The chain was bang on the marks when I changed it as well.

On a brighter note, she's just got me to Disneyland Paris and back and didn't miss a heart beat. Pulled like a train, even up hill in 5th fully loaded. I am very impressed and cannot say a bad word about her... even though she is a noisy f#*Ker!!! ha ha ha. I did check the tappets again just before I left. 4 times in fact just to make sure that all was still good even after rotating the engine a few times, and they stayed spot on. So who knows???

Checked the oil and water today and it hasn't budged a bit. What more can you ask of from cheap motoring??? The only thing I may check is that the push rods are in the right order as I just put them back as they came out.

Thanks again everyone.

I'd probably leave the push rods now. I wonder if an oil and filter change in conjunction with a good flushing oil put through it would help quieten it a little.
