Different versions of Nokia N95???

Featured Replies

I've got free upgrade offer from vodafone on a Silver N95 the 512mb version. I was told its the same as the 8Gb version apart from the memory card, the colour and the screen is a tiny bit smaller. Hardware/firmware etc is apparently the same.

Is this true? Is it worth paying £100+ for the black one? I'm not bothered about the spec issues I know about.

If you can, I would get the black 8GB version. I like my silver normal one, but the 8GB has more available ram to applications.

The 8GB pros.

More ram

Bigger screen

Better battery

8GB storage

8GB cons

The camera no longer has a protective slide to protect the lens.

well seeing as the memory and the screen are some of the most important features on the phone i'd say if was worth it imoa.

i also heard the camera was better (although some of that has worked its way back onto the n95 by firmware upgrades) the gps was better, and i thought the processor was faster too?

depends what you need from the phone, i'll upgrade to the 8gb version only as the n95 wont be out by the time my 18 month contract ends lol!

Yes... the 8gb has a bigger screen (2.8" vs 2.6") a bigger battery, more RAM (128mb vs 64mb) and of course 8gb of internal storage..

downsides as above, no protective slide for camera lense, and no microSD card for future memory upgrades.

Also its worth having a look at the N82 which is out any day now... its got every thing the N95-8gb series have but in a candybar style and with a proper Xenon camera flash

tbh, I don't need any of the functionality - like most people. Will the 64mb RAM run some sat nav software adequately?

I've got a baby due in 2 months so I've got better things to spend the money on - my tariff is only £20 p.m.:o I thought any free handset was be a bonus.

No problems with satnav on the silver N95, both Nokia maps and Tomtom work fine. Tomtom does however need an external bluetooth gps reciever because the internal one is not supported by tomtom.

I think I'm going to settle for the Silver one - at least I know what I'm missing now. Now to look up 2gb microSD cards.

N95 8GB cons:

Slo-o-o-o-o-w USB transfer speeds. Whereas a card from the N95 would fly if used in a card reader.

Get SYMSMB... then you can access windows shares using the N95 wireless.. much faster than using the cable

Been using the WiFi, yeah. But things like Maps requires you to use the cable which was a waste of 45 minutes of my day. As you can't use the Mass Memory when transferring and it won't download (before transfer) without the phone being connected. Same with 'backup' from the PC Suite.

Nothing like making phones easy, huh, Nokia.

Hours of fun with MovingBall though :D

Got it now, not got a ******* clue what I'm doing with it. :(. Where's the search button...

usb can be slow, it depends on what you are doing, so I always put the memory card in my PC and read/write in that.

Thats what I did with my N80. But the N95 8GB doesn't have a removable card so you're stuck with USB or using a 3rd party WiFi solution.

Nobody mind me, I'm just a late adopter - never thought I'd be getting this type of upgrade. I'll just carry on finding stuff you've all been doing for ages.

that or you post your questions here and

Another disadvantage of the N95:

Seems, although running Flash Lite 2, the LoadMovie() function won't load external media unless the .swf file is started via the Flash Player rather than the File manager.

Not that anyone will really find that annoying unless they're a Flash Developer, but it's just wasted 3 hours of my evening. Crappy Nokia :(

Can I have that in English

my battery won't charge unless its down to 1 bar. Is this normal? If so its a bit daft as its so easy to get caught out with a low battery.

Should charge at any point. Tried jiggling the cable?

Think the v20 firmware is out for the N95-1 now, so may be worth upgrading to get the best out of the phone?

using:

V 11.2.026 firmware

17-04-07

RM-159

Nokia N95 (41.03)

I know its old - its a returned phone. will try the battery thing again.

I'd use the updater to get v20 on it, most things should run a lot better with it. Will free up some RAM too.

My N95 8GB is stuck on v10 as theres no UK Firmware above 10 out at the mo :(

there is a v15 firmware out for the 8gb.

just use NSS to change the prod code

Only had it a week, not sure I want to kill the warranty until I know it's bug free.
