Chrome grill surround

Featured Replies

I was thinking about spraying my grill surround black the other day and then I wondered if any other Octavia had a plastic grill as standard? On the vRS it's chrome but rather than going through all the faff of rubbing it back and spraying and laquering etc. it would be nice if there was a plain black plastic grill that might be fitted to models lower down the range?

As far as i know they are all chrome, got mine sprayed black to match the car and it looks great :)

ETKA only lists the part - 1U0 853 661A molding for radiator grill - as being available in chrome.

A pretty resounding NO then!

I might get round to doing when the weather gets a bit better. What do you think would be best to go with the plastic of the slats, satin black? The car's silver, I'm thinking of getting the wheels done satin black when I've got the cash... and some wheels to put on while they're being done!

There is a good guide by Ethos on the forum Dan,do a search.

Mine there too :D

Have a look at Quinten's Octavia, if you haven't already. He's done what you're thinking about doing, black grill surround and black wheels on a silver vRS...

I like it, but not sure I'd do it to mine.

Nah, not keen on any of the aftermarket ones TBH. I do very much like the look of Quintens car, I hadn't seen it before thinking up what I was going to do, so it's not copying! I had my old cars wheels done satin black too, see!

Thread resurection!

Is this just the chrome part of the grill or the whole thing? Any ideas on price?

Since starting this thread I attempted to paint my grill, cocked it up, now I'm getting shot of the car I want to put it back to standard. The only places I've found selling it sell it with the black plastic grill part too, at the cost of about £45!

Yes that's the number for the chrome part only ;)

£36.79

28/09/07 when I got mine for the dealer!

The only downside is a black surround attracts the stone chips

Needs frequent touch ups

To be honest, I've had it on there for about what 9 months and it's only picked up 2 small chips. Certainly no more than the front of the car (which is looking worse for wear at the moment).

Needs a detail!!

Here's my guide mate, it really didn't take that long and I'm rubbish at this sort of thing...

Good thing is, if you mess it up... just try again. I've got enough paint etc.. to do it about 10 times :D

It's still looking pretty good;

I've already done it!

I might be getting my dealer to buy my car back off of me, so I need it back to standard. Hence, my black grill trim needs to be replaced with an original chrome trim.

Sorry mate, I completely missed that post!

Good luck, you selling anything fun off it? :)

Dan

Got mine sprayed Black Magic locally Around £20 /25. It cost me £30 for the grille and chrome surround to be sprayed!

If your'e interested PM me and I'll give you the guys No.

Sorry missed the post that you were selling! Brain fade!!!

Ha ha! Everyone seems to be overlooking that!

Ethos, luckily I never really got round to doing much to the car so the only thing I'm selling is my fibreglass sub box.

could swap my chrome for your black? Any particular reason your selling the car?

  • Author

Yeah, it's a POS!!

I'd be up for swapping, but to be honest I did a really bad of job of spraying mine, it looks pretty gash.
