Compound mop and polishing

Featured Replies

Took my car to the jet wash the other week and after drying noticed that it was smothered in white scratches. Upon inspection i noticed that i could not feel them under my fingernail so took it to a local body shop which said the car would only need a compund mop and polish to remove them, quoting me £135.

Is this a good price and is compound mop and polishing any good? Anyone had any experience of this?

I have previously worked in the body repair industry. This type of treatment is fine. Basically they will use the compound polish to cut back your laquer layer, which sits above the layer of paint on your bodywork to make it smooth and now not showing any scratches. Once this has been completed they will finish the job by using a fine polish to bring back the shine to the surface.

Regards to the cost, you will find this treatment expensive because of the labour hrs required to carry it out.

Another option would be to buy a polisher yourself with a decent cutting compound (total cost £50) and do it yourself.
