Factory fit Sat Nav..

Featured Replies

Is it worth paying £1300 for the factory fit Sat Nav option ? Im currently specking my new Scout and am undecided if its worth it or not. I like the look but am unsure how useable it is in comparrison to my trusty old Tom Tom. Any advice, feedback or opions appreciated. Can you do postcode searches ??

Given that All SatNav prices keep coming down and their spec and capabilities keep rising why the f**k would anyone pay £1,300 for an OE one.

Stick with whatever you have and spend the rest on other options or more beer

Depends if it is Nexus or Columbus that we are talking about.

Nexus or MFD2 can be picked up for around £300-£350 on Ebay.

Columbus or MFD3 or Trinax is still around £1000 on Ebay but is a completely different beast to the MFD2.

As to whether it is worth the money I can't say as I only have an MFD2.

if it is the new one and you have the money then i would

If it's the Columbus then it's more than a SatNav.

Integral 30gb HD, SD card slot, DVD player and much more.

Yes it is a lot of ££ but it's a lot of device.

If I could afford it it would on my option list, after seeing Stu's.

OEM sat nav will always be superior to the TomTom's of this world but the advantages are not always the obvious things like snazzy graphics and bluetooth.

I saw a Columbus in a golf GT today, it had a mahoosive pod on the roof though.

I have the factory fit MFD2 unit in my vRS. Mine was built just before the upgraded Columbus model was available.

I is nice not to have the dashboard / windscreen obstructed by my previous Mio Sat Nav as I also have a Snooper mounted.

The MFD2 works well enough. Reacts quicker than my previous unit and the screen is a nice, easy read size.

A down side is that with 25 destinations input the memory is full!

This is a bit of a pain. Covering the country as I do (company car) this is not enough and means sacrificing some entries.

I have not seen the new system in action but by all accounts it is very good with some nice features over my unit.

Postcode search is available (4 digit) could be more on the new unit.

Directions appearing via the maxdot is also useful, showing current street name and the street / road you require next.

Auto dimmimng screen when switching on headlights can be overriden.

Anyway, my unit is not available as factory fit so you may want to take the other members advise and look on ebay. They are easy enough to fit and work well with the OEM bluetooth unit.

If you go this route, VRStu is the man to advise on fitting, should you be a little hesitant.

Hope you enjoy, whichever option you choose.
