Clutch replacement

Featured Replies

ARGH - my- clutch has just stated to slip at 118,000 KM.

It's a 2001 Fabia 1.9tdi - any ideas on what a replacement unit would cost in the UK?

Clutch kit+ release bearing about £150 from motor factors.

About 4 hours labour to fit.

Well, our labour rates here in Spain are a fraction of UK Main Dealer prices, around 45 Euros + 16% VAT per hour for a Skoda and about 5 euros an hour more for VW badged cars at the same (joint franchise) dealership in Marbella.

I guess the genuine VAG clutch kit is more than the equivalent of 150 quid, in Euros, though!

Ah,well the bad news!

The parts alone, [genuine VW/Skoda] on an exchange basis, are around 400 euros+ VAT. The labour rate inc. VAT is a fraction over 48 euros an hour, so the total bill will be around 700 euros

LOL!

My quote from my local skoda garage was arond 400 quid.

But most local garages quoted me around 200 quid.

Personally i wouldnt bother with a franchise original vw/skoda part and get it from euro parts instead, get it delivered and get a local spanish garage to fit it.

cant you go jocks garage and get yourself on TV?!!!

k:)

I posted on another forum re this and the first reply was as follows:- "

The book time [Fabia PDTDi with ATD engine and EGR] is given as 2.8 hours for the clutch, but as this will almost certainly have a dual-mass flywheel to change as well, then it's 3 hours dead."

I then replied thus:- " Does that mean that a new dual mass flywheel is required too?

I have been quoted around 700+ euros, (Main VW/Skoda dealer in Marbella)(inc VAT @16%) for the job, with the labour rate at 48.35 euros (inc. VAT @16%). Parts are around 465 euros, (inc VAT @16%), so that leaves 235 euros@ 48 euros per hour = around 5 hours ?

VAT rate IS 16% here and a euro is currently worth around £0.68.

That's a staggering £475 for a clutch replacement with a labour rate that is about £33.85 per hour all in.

Do I smell rotten fish?"

What's your opinion people; rip off or not?

Well our clutch is done!

Costs, just for interest, three items - not quite sure what they are (Spanish!) Plate: 143.32 Euros, Disc: 188.93 euros, collar: 53.95 euros, all plus VAT @16%.

From this I think that the replaceable part of the dual mass flywheel has, indeed been replaced, which is borne out by a labour time of 3.10 hours for the job.

Blooming costly for a clutch job. Mind you it is a VAG main dealer, so parts prices will reflect this.
